The latest kitchen design trends made easy to help you design your perfect kitchen
Kitchen renovation is becoming increasingly popular, with recent research suggesting it is now the most sought-after home improvement project. Every new year brings fresh design trends, so what does this year have in store for people looking to embark on a kitchen renovation?
Black benchtops, appliances and even walls are expected to dominate, with the colour adding depth and character while remaining classic and elegant.
Bear in mind that darker colours often make spaces appear more confined, so they should be used sparingly in smaller kitchens, or for a classic look that won’t date, try combining with white.
Pop of colour
Although darker colours are set to feature in 2016, white continues to be a mainstay of the modern kitchen – creating a fresh and crisp modern feel.
However, with more and more appliances available in a variety of colours it will be easier to add a feature colour through smaller products, paint and accessories.
The New Kitchen Neutrals
Grey - is the new kitchen neutral, lending itself to a modern sleek looking kitchen design and adding a contemporary look, complimented beautifully by high quality dark grey lacquered cabinet doors. Grey kitchens can be finished off perfectly with chrome or stainless steel fittings to drawers and cupboards.
Natural and mixed finish - Wood or natural look finishes also create a stylish neutral base for kitchen design, and work well with accent colours that can be changed in line with seasons or trends. This year, expect to see different shades of grey and other colours mixed with materials like timber for a modern style statement.
White - If you like classic white in your kitchen, why not consider how stainless steel appliances, colourful artwork or hardware like handles can complement your design.
Engineered stone is an increasingly popular material to be used in kitchen benchtops. It is made from reconstituted natural materials.
The benefit of engineered stone is that while it is durable, easy to clean and can simulate the look of natural stone, it is also available in a large range of colours.
Also more affordable than natural stone options like marble or granite, engineered stone is a great option for modern family kitchens.

One of the hottest trends in kitchen design at the moment is having a bank of appliances built in to cabinetry. If you love cooking, having two ovens means you can have several dishes on the go at once - one grilling the veggies while the other oven is cooking the perfect roast or dessert – everything will be cooked and ready at the same time, and you’ll always have enough space to warm the plates! Also works with built in coffee machines, warming drawer, combination steam or microwave ovens.
