Capsule (or pod) coffee machines are the most popular espresso machines purchased in Australia. They are compact and easy to use. Instead of measuring out (and grinding) coffee grounds, capsule coffee machines use single serve pods or capsules that contain hermetically sealed coffee grounds to brew the coffee. When you place the capsule in the machine it will automatically pierce the seal on the capsule and run a pre-set volume of hot water through the coffee grounds inside to produce the espresso. Coffee capsules and pods come in a variety of different flavours, blends and strengths to suit a wide range of tastes.
Different machines and brands will use different capsules, so when you are shopping for a new capsule coffee machine you should check to make sure you like the blends and flavours that are compatible with that machine. You’ll find however that most coffee capsules fit most machines, with many capsules for example compatible with the popular Nespresso capsule coffee machines.
Capsule coffee machines take up very little bench space and can produce multiple servings quickly, with minimal clean-up (simply remove the used pod or capsule and throw it away).
