The OG vacuums > stick vacuums
Much better than the stick when comparing the lower price point of the stick vacuums. Suction is amazing and very easy to set up. Down side is that it’s not as easy to take out and do a quick clean and there isn’t a hard floor surface attachment.

Purchase of Dyson Vacuum
Dyson works really well with heavy dust and larger particles. Anthony at The Good Guys Rockingham was very helpful with his advice and guidance with what product would suit best.

Dyson v8 stick vac review
Good product convenient for vacuuming around corners and under items such as chairs. Battery lasts about 30 mins on the normal mode and 10 minuets on the super mode. It is convenient but the battery doesn’t last long.

At a glance
The Dyson Big Ball Bagless Barrel Vacuum is a corded canister vacuum for homes needing strong suction across mixed floor types. It suits households wanting a bagless design, hygienic dirt emptying and better reach under furniture or into awkward spots. Its standout strengths are self-righting stability and easy handling with the articulated wand. The trade-off is that it is less compact and convenient to store than many stick vacuums.

Things to consider
Compared with many stick vacuums, this barrel design is less compact to store and may feel less convenient for quick grab-and-go cleaning.
Pet hair performance score
7/10 - strong suction should handle everyday pet hair well, but no pet-specific cleaning tool is stated in the provided specs.
Large home suitability
Good for medium to large homes thanks to its large-capacity bin and corded, whole-home cleaning design.
Carpet vs hard floor fit
Well suited to mixed homes with both carpet and hard floors.
Noise level rating
6/10 - likely typical for a powerful corded barrel vacuum, with no low-noise claim provided.
Portability rating
7/10 - the self-righting design and articulated handle help movement, but barrel vacuums are generally less compact than stick models.
Key benefits
- 2 Tier Radial cyclones: Helps maintain strong suction by separating dust and debris efficiently during cleaning.
- Self-righting body: Returns upright when toppled, reducing interruptions as you move around furniture and corners.
- Bagless design: No vacuum bags to buy or replace during normal use.
- Hygienic dirt ejection: Empties the bin with a push-button action so you do not need to touch the collected dirt.
- Large capacity bin: Holds more dust and debris, so you can clean longer before stopping to empty it.
- 125 cm wand reach: Extends to help clean higher, lower and harder-to-reach areas with less stretching.
- 360° articulated handle: Rotates in three directions for better control around obstacles and tight spaces.
- All floor suitability: Engineered to clean across carpet and hard floors without needing separate machines.
Q: Is this better for long whole-home cleans than a stick vacuum?
A: Yes. Dyson Big Ball is a corded barrel vacuum, so it suits longer cleaning sessions without battery fade and its large bin means fewer stops to empty. The trade-off is a bulkier body and hose, so it is less grab-and-go to store and use.
Q: Can the wand reach under furniture and above head height?
A: Yes. The wand extends to 1250mm and the handle rotates through 360 degrees, which helps when cleaning under lounges, on shelves or around furniture legs. It gives more reach and control than a fixed, short rigid tube.
Q: Will it keep cleaning if the barrel tips over mid-use?
A: Yes. Dyson Big Ball is designed to self-right when toppled, so you can keep moving around corners and furniture with fewer interruptions. That helps in tighter rooms where a barrel vacuum is more likely to catch and roll awkwardly.
Q: How well does it pick up pet hair from carpets?
A: It should handle everyday pet hair well because the suction is strong and it is made for all floor types, including carpet. A pet-specific tool is not listed, so stubborn hair on upholstery or stairs may need more passes than a dedicated pet setup.
Q: Does the dust bin empty cleanly without touching the dirt?
A: Yes. Dyson Big Ball uses a push-button hygienic dirt ejection system, so the collected dust drops out without needing to be pulled out by hand. It is still best emptied directly into a household bin to reduce loose debris escaping.
Q: Would this suit a small cupboard or apartment storage space?
A: No. This model is more suited to buyers who prioritise corded cleaning performance over compact storage, because the barrel body, hose and wand take up more room than many stick vacuums. It is better in homes with a dedicated cupboard or laundry space.
