It's designed for safety too with a safety device inside that turns the kettle off if it's accidentally switched on without water, and auto shut-off when the kettle is lifted from the base mid-boil.
Cleaning of the stainless steel limescale filter is easy with the aid of a brush and running water, while kettle limescale build up can be removed by adding white vinegar to boiled water, emptying it out several hours later, re-boiling and emptying again
