The Good Guys Black Friday Sale 2023 is set to be a gamer’s paradise with plenty of ways to upgrade your gaming set-up for less. “The latest trends in gaming focus on customising your set-up, and Black Friday is the perfect time to do it,” says David Linehan, The Good Guys Buyer – Tech Accessories.
“In the past, elite controllers and top-of-the-range mechanical keyboards were the domain of pro players and streamers. But now that prices on those items have become more competitive, everyone can make the most of the premium customisation of these products to take their gaming to the next level.”
Keen to take it up a notch? Here’s our guide to getting the most out of the Black Friday gaming deals so you can game in comfort and style.
Black Friday used to be a US-based event only, but now it’s taking Australia by storm. This year, it falls on 24 November – one month before Christmas, which makes it the perfect occasion to clear your Christmas shopping list, or the perfect excuse to spoil yourself. Black Friday is one of the busiest shopping days on the calendar and it’s famous for having some of the best deals around. You can read more about it in this handy guide.
If you’re looking for a great deal on Black Friday, there are a few brands to keep an eye on, including PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch, as well as Logitech for PC accessories and headsets. David Linehan expects some items to be more popular than others. “Nintendo Switch Black Friday deals are going to be a big hit – make sure you head down early so you don’t miss out,” says David.
Wondering how to pick the right gaming PC or laptop for you? “When it comes to gaming PCs or laptops, it’s all about getting the right balance of power and performance within your budget; plus, if you’re getting a laptop, you’ll want to consider power usage and weight, too,” says Jason Tavoletti, The Good Guys Buyer – Tech.
Also consider the types of games you’ll be playing and whether you need to prioritise ray tracing, multi-screen set-ups and/or refresh rates.
There is a perfect monitor for every PC gamer, depending on your desk space and the kinds of games you play. A larger smart monitor can double as your TV. A curved ultrawide monitor can replace a multi-display set-up for racing sim fans. Meanwhile, first-person shooter fans will need to prioritise refresh rates over almost all else.
Don’t forget to include gaming headsets in your set-up. A quality headset can give you a real edge over the competition – easily pick out footsteps and their direction, or hear when it’s time to change gears in a split second while racing. Keep an eye out for a high-quality mic, as well as Bluetooth connectivity so you can connect your phone for music or Discord chat alongside game audio. Wired headphones are compatible with all consoles, as are most Xbox-specific wireless headsets that have a dongle; PS5-specific headsets will usually work with everything but Xbox.
When it comes to gaming accessories, comfort is key, as is travel distance on the keys and shortcut buttons (for example, on the mouse). Alongside controllers, keyboards and mice, you might also need streaming equipment (like mics and stands), as well as media remotes and mouse pads. Remember, a professional-level mouse with a high DPI is only as good as the surface it’s being used on!
Black Friday is a great time to shop for the gamer in your life and get them the perfect gift without breaking the bank. There’s something to suit every budget, from charging stands and retro games machines for kids to the latest gaming computers. When choosing accessories, just remember to consider what console they play on.
