TVs Over 60 Inches

There are a few things to keep in mind when looking at buying a big screen TV. 

First the resolution: either 8K (new technology with brilliant, crisp images and the best possible picture quality with four times the level of detail compared to 4K); or 4K UHD (also known as Ultra HD, 4K allows you to view clear images with incredible detail). Both 8K and 4K TVs require compatible native content to display their full resolution, however, many come with resolution upscaling capabilities to render content to near 8K or 4K quality respectively. 

The smart TV platform of choice can be a big deal if seamlessly managing your subscription streaming services is a must. Android TVs are a popular option in both 8K and 4K TVs; utilising Google voice recognition (some with the Assistant built inside for handsfree control) and an Android operating system.

From there, choose the technology:

• OLED (takes TV realism to the next level with the best picture quality), or
• QLED (tiny quantum dots magnify brightness and colour, using a backlight made up of LEDs), or 
• LED LCD (the most common type on the market).  The latest LED LCD TVs use Mini LED - a new LED LCD TV technology that offers superior contrast and brightness over standard LED LCD.

Once you’ve found your ideal big screen TV, you’ll need to get it home. Your TV needs to stay upright, the screen protected from being pinched, and if you’re wall-mounting it, you’ll need to take care. Or ask our experts to deliver and install it for you.

When it comes to choosing the size of your TV screen, it’s all about personal preference and why you need a TV.  For example, if you’re buying a TV to take away in your caravan, you’ll opt for a smaller TV (they start from around 32”). If you’re buying a TV for your home theatre room, you’d want to go as big as possible (over 60” at least). 

Here are some quick tips if you’ve asked, ‘What size TV do I need?’:

• The screen size is measured from the bottom left hand corner to the top right hand corner (it’s not measured across);
• The higher the resolution, the better (1080p, 4K or 8K). 8K is the newest technology, but 4K continues to give you a brilliant picture;
• Measure your space for how far away you need to sit from your TV:
  • 55” TV- 1.7m
  • 65” TV – 2.0m
  • 75” TV – 2.3m
  • 85” TV – 2.6m  

You’ll find that the bigger you go with a TV screen, the better your picture quality becomes. If you choose a smart TV over 60”, you won’t go wrong!

You’ll find an extensive range in TVs above 60”, with the most popular sizes being 65”, 75”, 85”, and 100”. The top sellers of large smart TVs are made by Sony, Samsung, TCL, Hisense and LG.

Samsung often tops the best sellers chart, with their 8K TVs being some of the best on the market. Hisense has become well-known for producing high-quality TVs at a reasonable price, allowing more people to take home a big-screen TV.

You’ll find that despite the size, some TVs have different technology. Take Mini LED screens, for example. These LCD TVs offer superior contrast and brightness and are worth considering. 

Android users will love the latest smart TVs using Google’s Android’s operating system. You use apps as you do on your phone, and Google Assistant will help you find anything you’re looking for. 

If you haven’t bought a TV in years, you’ll find that technology has come a long way and that whatever you choose is guaranteed to be better than what you’re currently watching!

It’s easy getting lost in the world of big screen TVs. Here’s a checklist of what to be aware of when buying a big TV:

• What size is your room – how far away is the couch (or bed, or gaming chair) from the TV?

• What do you love watching the most – movies, fast-paced sports or online gaming?

• What features would you like – internet, Android operating system, apps, fast streaming? 

• How many USB or HDMI points do you need - to connect your gaming stations, media players or sound system?

• Do you want to add in accessories – a TV stand or wall-mounting brackets, Apple TV, media players, gaming consoles?

• What price are you willing to pay – are you going to pay for a top-quality TV for your living area, or do you want a smaller alternative for the home office?

• Do you have a preferred brand – LG, Samsung, Sony, Hisense, TCL?

• What resolution quality are you looking for – the latest at 8K, fantastic quality at 4K? 

• What technology do you prefer – OLED or LED/LCD (or Mini LED as a variant in the latter?)
