A substantial piece of kit
This vac is certainly well made and reasonably quiet (not much more than 60db). The feel of all the parts is one of solidity, strength and longevity, it's a bit heavier than I thought but can be pulled around easily and freely. The suction works very well on my hardwood floors leaving not a speck behind. Good looking, functional and no smell left in the air, a most wonderful and welcome little helper.

Bad design
As usual the vacuum is not designed with women in mind. The handle has plastic ridges along the side, which made it impossible to grip without experiencing pain in my hands. I tried to hold it by the steel tube instead and that too had raised ridges down the sides. It seemed to have really good suction though and I'm sure it would be a great vacuum for someone with massive hands. So I returned it to the store and will look for something more ergonomically suitable.

At a glance
The Miele Boost CX1 is a compact bagless barrel vacuum designed for mixed-floor homes and apartments where storage space is limited. It offers stable handling with TrackDrive, strong everyday cleaning and a HEPA AirClean filter for dust control. Included tools help with pet hair on furniture and small areas. Its main limitation is the 1 L bin, which may need more frequent emptying in larger homes.
What it’s great for
- Everyday floor cleaning
- Apartment living
- Mixed hard floor and carpet cleaning
- Stairs
- Pet fur on upholstery
Where it works best
- Apartments
- Small homes
- Townhouses
- Mixed-surface living areas
- Staircases
Who it’s for
- Apartment dwellers
- Small-home households
- Pet owners
- Allergy-conscious users
- Everyday cleaners
Things to consider
The 1 L bin is relatively small compared with larger barrel vacuums, so it may need more frequent emptying in bigger homes or during heavy-cleaning sessions.
Pet hair performance score
7/10 - included upholstery and dusting tools help with fur on furniture and small areas, but it is not a dedicated pet-specific model.
Large home suitability
Better suited to small to medium homes and apartments than large homes due to the 1 L bin capacity.
Carpet vs hard floor fit
Well suited to mixed surfaces, with a slight strength in everyday hard floor and tile cleaning while still handling carpets.
Noise level rating
6/10 - no quiet-operation claim is provided, so expect typical barrel vacuum noise levels.
Portability rating
8/10 - compact sizing, side-mounted wheels and TrackDrive make it easier to move through tight spaces and on stairs.
Key benefits
- Bagless Design: Lets you empty dust directly from the 1 L bin without needing replacement vacuum bags.
- Compact Body: Takes up less storage space, making it easier to keep in apartments, cupboards or smaller laundry areas.
- TrackDrive Side Wheels: Helps the vacuum stay stable and follow its path more neatly around tight rooms and on stairs.
- Universal Floorhead: Supports convenient cleaning across hard floors, tiles and carpets without constantly switching heads.
- HEPA AirClean Filter: Helps capture fine dust and allergens for cleaner exhaust air during vacuuming.
- 890 W Motor: Delivers solid everyday cleaning power for general household dust, debris and surface dirt.
- 6.5 m Cord: Gives extended cleaning reach before you need to change power points.
- Included Upholstery Nozzle and Dusting Brush: Makes it easier to remove pet hair, dust and debris from furniture and detailed surfaces.
Q: Is the 1 litre bin enough for a family home
A: Not really for larger family homes. The 1 litre bin suits apartments and small to medium spaces, but it will need more frequent emptying if you vacuum a lot of carpet, pet hair or several rooms in one session.
Q: Does TrackDrive help on stairs and around furniture
A: Yes. The side-mounted wheels and TrackDrive layout help the vacuum stay stable and follow more neatly through tight rooms and on stairs. It is still a barrel vacuum, so the main unit trails behind rather than standing upright beside you.
Q: Can the universal floorhead clean tiles and carpet well
A: Yes. The universal floorhead is built for mixed surfaces, so it can move from tiles and hard floors to everyday carpet without swapping heads. It is a general-use setup, not a specialist floorhead aimed at one surface only.
Q: Is this vacuum suitable for pet hair on sofas
A: Yes. It includes an upholstery nozzle and dusting brush, which are useful for lifting fur from sofas, cushions and other surfaces. It handles pet hair touch-ups well, but it is not positioned as a specialist pet vacuum.
Q: Will the 6.5 metre cord suit an apartment layout
A: Yes, in most apartments and smaller homes. The 6.5 metre cord gives enough reach for several nearby areas before changing power points, though larger open-plan spaces may still need a reset during a full clean.
Q: How does the HEPA AirClean filter help with dust
A: The Miele Boost CX1 uses a HEPA AirClean filter to capture fine dust in the vacuum's airflow while cleaning. That makes it a practical choice for dusty rooms, although the compact 1 litre bin still needs regular emptying.
