Why Is Routine Important For A Child In School?

The end of the school holidays signals the start of early wakeups and that looming daily deadline of the school bell ringing. The result can often be a frantic, cortisol-raising rush to get out the door.

“It’s important to set a routine to ease the before-school rush and prepare kids for the school day, and to help them finish their homework afterwards,” says Shiao-Ling Lim, Managing Director of early learning program Shichida in Australia.

“Routine is a form of discipline for them. It will help kids establish expectations and boundaries, and what they need to prepare for.”

Why Is A Morning Routine Important for Families?

A regular morning routine is incredibly important for both children and parents, as it can help stop the stress and uncertainty that comes with an unorganised morning rush.

As we've all heard, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, which is why it also pays to invest in small kitchen appliances that will set you and your children up for morning success! Want practical, time-saving appliances that also look super stylish? Consider a toaster with extra wide slots to toast various kinds of bread, or a kettle with larger capacity so the whole family can enjoy the perfect morning cuppa - it will make breakfast time a treat!

Of course, we can't forget the school uniforms. If you love the look of wrinkle-free school uniforms but hate the time it takes to iron them, a steamer is the perfect product to save you time in the morning. Heating up in just seconds, school uniforms will be refreshed and ready to go in no time.  If you want to invest, you can't go past a drying cabinet like the LG Styler Clothing Care System, this innovative cabinet gently refreshes and deodorizes clothes using the power of steam. Great for hats, shoes and sportswear too!

Stress less with our range of kitchen and laundry appliances that will keep your Back to School morning routine on track!

What Is The Best Morning Routine For Primary School Kids?

Rise and shine, it’s Monday morning and time to get the kids ready for school. But what happens when you can’t even get them out of bed? A clock radio on their bedside table or yours is your best bet for waking up with enough time to get out the door. Then, turn up the tunes!

“Playing music at home, or on the car ride to school, is a great way to create before-school Zen. Audio books are really good, too,” says Shiao-Ling Lim.

With a portable speaker, you can pick the perfect playlist and set the mood for each stage of their morning. Something upbeat and energising playing in the bedroom might keep them on task while they get dressed. A kid-friendly podcast in the dining room might help them sit quietly during breakfast.

“The best thing about portable speakers is they really can go anywhere you need them to,” says Christos Boukogiannis, The Good Guys Buyer – Sound. “Some of the best options are waterproof, making them perfect for use in the bathroom while the kids are brushing their teeth, or by the pool when they’re playing.”

What Is The Best After-School Routine For Primary School Kids?

It can feel like walking a tightrope, trying to manage end-of-day fatigue while keeping kids entertained and getting their homework done. Encouraging them to prepare their own after-school snack before tackling their homework is a good way to transition between school and home.

Need some help getting them excited about homework? Shiao-Ling Lim says technology can be your after-school saviour!

“We have parents saying, ‘my kids don't like to write’, so one of our suggestions is to use technology. What we do is encourage them to record a story on a tablet or a phone,” says Shiao-Ling.

Then, she suggests, gradually getting the story from the device onto paper.

“You can say, ‘why don't we make a book out of it?’ They can write a sentence a day, depending on their age. For primary school kids… certainly working on a tablet is more interesting than a sheet of paper, but it needs to be a controlled-time thing.”

What Is The Best Routine For Secondary School Kids?

There’s no avoiding it – high school means more homework. But that doesn’t have to mean the end of after-school fun! When it comes to encouraging high school students to get stuck into study, social interaction can help take the edge off.

“Virtual homework is a good idea,” says Shiao-Ling Lim. “Everyone logs onto a laptop or an iPad and onto [an online meeting app like] Zoom or Teams and does their homework together. Of course, there’s some chit-chat too!”
