Back to school FAQs at The Good Guys

Get prepared for the back-to-school season with The Good Guys. We've compiled everything you need to know, from top deals to frequently asked questions, to help make your back-to-school prep seamless and stress-free.

Students need a range of school supplies including - text books and stationery, school uniforms (if required) and a school bag. If the school has a bring your own device policy (BYOD laptop) your child will also need to have a suitable laptop, 2-in-1 laptop or tablet. Typically, your child’s school will provide a list of school essentials for you to check off every year.

Whether you’re working from home or working from the office your office supplies will be similar. A powerful laptop is essential. Add a keyboard and mouse, for extra comfort if you type a lot, and an additional monitor will enable optimal dual screen working. You should also consider your mobile phone, with smart devices making it easy to check your schedule and respond to work emails or use as a hotspot device when you are out and about. A desk and suitable office chair, preferably ergonomic, finishes your essential office supplies. Add extras like a coffee machine, kettle and grill or sandwich press to really deck out your office kitchen and consider extra lighting such as a ring light to enhance all those zoom meetings.

Along with the traditional uni text books and backpack, your best friend at uni will be your laptop. Look for a laptop with the latest processor for speed and performance and don’t forget to grab additional storage to save all those university assignments. If you’re moving away from home for the first time, also consider benchtop cooking appliances for the best home-cooked cheap eats – such as a rice cooker, electric fry pan, kettle, air fryer and microwave.

Schools will often have a year-level guide for school supplies, including text books, stationery and uniforms but when looking at purchasing a laptop, you’ll need to carefully consider your child’s study requirements. 2-in-1s are a great option for primary school students as they are lightweight and easy to carry in a school bag. Kids also love transforming their laptop into a tablet to learn on the go. If you have a teenager in secondary school whose studying art or graphic design, make sure their laptop has an up-to-date processor to run all their design software. High school students are also saving more of their work to their computer, so make sure they have enough storage capacity. Don’t forget to also consider whether an android system or MAC operating system is best.
