In a dark room, you would be hard-pressed to do better than an OLED TV. “But, if you have a brighter room, like a living room with a lot of windows, Mini LED TV could be a better option,” says Jason Tavoletti. “They still have excellent light control and black blacks, but can go much, much brighter, which is what you need on a bright day, and to get the most out of those fancy HDR textures.” Different brands have different names for Mini LED, such as QNED and Neo QLED.

This trend was reflected at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, with companies now starting to explore 98 inches and bigger screens in premium models. “Samsung unveiled a ‘modular’ MicroLED TV of up to 156 inches – a bezel-less design which, the company says, will allow customers to create a TV sized for their needs. Plus, there’s been a focus on short-throw projectors these past few years,” says award-winning technology journalist Alice Clarke.
“TVs are only going to get bigger across all price points. I wouldn’t be surprised if 100 inches became the norm within the next five years.”
