At a glance
This 48 inch Samsung OLED TV is a premium compact 4K smart TV that suits bedrooms, studies, and gaming-focused spaces. It stands out for deep OLED blacks, strong colour, smooth 165Hz gaming, and broad smart features. It is ideal for buyers wanting high-end picture quality without a large screen. The main limitation is that its smaller size is less cinematic for large living rooms.

Things to consider
The 48 inch screen is excellent for smaller rooms, but buyers wanting a more cinematic experience in a larger lounge room may prefer a bigger TV.
Living room suitability
Best for small to medium living spaces; less ideal as a main TV in larger lounge rooms due to the 48 inch screen size.
Family viewing friendliness
8/10 - Excellent picture quality and smart features make it easy for mixed household use, though the smaller screen is less suited to larger family viewing spaces.
Smart tv feature score
9/10 - Tizen Smart TV, hands-free Alexa support, Google Assistant compatibility, SmartThings, Bixby, Apple AirPlay 2, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth v5.3 give it a strong connected feature set.
Gaming suitability
10/10 - A 165Hz refresh rate, OLED response, HDR10+ gaming support, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, and NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility make it highly capable for serious gaming.
Wall mount compatibility
Compatible with 300 x 200 mm VESA wall mounts; wall mount not included.
Key benefits
- OLED panel: Self-lighting pixels deliver deep blacks and strong contrast for more immersive movie and TV viewing.
- 48 inch screen size: Fits comfortably in bedrooms, studies, and smaller entertainment areas where larger TVs may feel oversized.
- Micro RGB AI Engine Pro: Enhances colour vibrancy and tonal detail for a richer, more lifelike picture.
- NQ4 AI Gen3 Processor: Improves lower-resolution content by upscaling it up to 4K for sharper everyday viewing.
- 165Hz refresh rate: Delivers very smooth motion for fast-paced gaming and sports.
- AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility: Helps reduce screen tearing and stutter for more responsive gameplay.
- Dolby Atmos 40W 2.1CH sound: Produces fuller, more immersive audio than basic TV speakers for movies and games.
- 4.5 star energy rating: Offers strong energy performance for its class, with estimated annual energy consumption of 288 kWh.
Q: Does this TV need a soundbar for decent movie and gaming sound?
A: No. Samsung QA48S90HAEXXY has 40W 2.1CH speakers with Dolby Atmos, so it can handle everyday movie and gaming audio on its own. A separate soundbar is worth considering only if you want more room-filling sound or stronger bass.
Q: Can Samsung S90H be wall mounted with any TV bracket?
A: No. Samsung QA48S90HAEXXY uses a 300 x 200 VESA pattern, so the bracket needs to match that size. A wall mount is not included, and cable clearance matters when planning access to the HDMI, antenna and optical connections.
Q: Will this 48 inch OLED work well on a gaming desk?
A: Yes. The 48 inch screen suits a desk or smaller room better than a large lounge setup, and the recommended viewing distance is 150cm. Check the furniture depth as well, because the TV measures 20.9cm front to back with the stand attached.
Q: How many devices can stay plugged into this TV at once?
A: Samsung QA48S90HAEXXY has 4 HDMI ports and 2 USB-A ports, which suits a typical mix of a console, soundbar, streaming device and one spare input. If several consoles and accessories are connected together, those ports can fill quickly.
Q: Can this TV record free-to-air programs to a USB drive?
A: Yes. Samsung QA48S90HAEXXY includes an Extended PVR function, which allows recording from live TV when a suitable USB storage device is connected. It is designed for broadcast recording, not for saving content from streaming apps or HDMI sources.
Q: Is Wi-Fi 6E important if my home internet is older?
A: No. Samsung QA48S90HAEXXY will still connect over Wi-Fi even if the home network is not Wi-Fi 6E. Wi-Fi 6E mainly helps when the router also supports it, while Ethernet is available if a wired connection suits the room better.
