    Pretty great

My last coffee machine was the same model and lasted ten years, so I bought this to replace it but in white. The white coating seems durable enough so far and thankfully has not retained any coffee stains despite a few weeks of heavy use. These dual boilers are great to learn on and also very versatile without spending thousands on "the next step". You will need a good coffee grinder to go with it, and I'd recommend a DF54 or Niche Zero rather than a Breville Smart Grinder. You will also need some sensitive scales. You will only ever need to use the double shot non-pressurised basket and I also recommend getting a Breville bottomless handle as it will help you pull better shots. Overall it will take a few bags of fresh beans from a roastery and a sensitive scale to learn to use this so have patience and keep a notebook. You will need to be buying or ordering in small bags of fresh beans every two weeks or so, that's coffee life.

    Right choice of coffee machine

I upgraded to Breville from another brand snd I am very satisfied with this make and model. The coffee comes out hot and the frother is amazing, milk is like silk. It's easy to clean and I love the dual boiler. Highly recommend 👌

    Best coffee machine I've had

This coffee machine is great and all the parts feel like good quality. It makes a perfect coffee and I love that if you make more than one espresso shot the brew temp does not change like in other machines. The white colour is slightly pearly and is a perfect slight warm white that will look amazing in my new kitchen.

The BDB makes really great coffee. We picked up some beans from out local cafe and can’t notice the difference between the coffee their machines makes vs the BDB

I wouldnt say you would save money because family and friends will keep popping around to your house for coffee. But that is an indication of the quality. Highly recommend this machine.

Key benefits

  • Dual Boiler System: Allows simultaneous espresso extraction and milk steaming for faster preparation.
  • PID Temperature Control: Maintains precise water temperature for optimal espresso flavour.
  • Manual Microfoam Wand: Enables creation of silky microfoam for latte art and textured milk drinks.
  • Pre-Infusion Function: Gradually increases water pressure for even extraction and balanced taste.
  • Large Water Tank: Reduces the need for frequent refills, supporting multiple drinks in one session.
  • Programmable Shot Control: Customise shot volumes for single or double espresso.
  • Pressure Gauge: Provides real-time feedback for shot optimisation.
  • Dedicated Hot Water Outlet: Convenient for making long blacks or pre-heating cups.

Q: Can the Breville Dual Boiler brew espresso and steam milk at the same time?

A: Yes. Its triple heat system uses separate espresso and steam boilers plus a heated group head, so extraction and milk texturing can run together. That means faster back to back coffees and steadier temperature than single boiler machines.

Q: Does the Breville BES920SST4IAN1 have a built-in grinder?

A: No. This is a manual espresso machine, so coffee is ground separately before brewing. To get the most from the 58mm portafilter and non-pressurised style workflow, pair it with a capable burr grinder that can make fine, consistent espresso grinds.

Q: Is the Breville The Dual Boiler a good choice for beginners, or is it better for experienced home baristas?

A: It suits beginners who want to learn proper espresso technique, but it is less automatic than a pod or bean-to-cup machine. The 58mm portafilter, manual dosing and milk texturing reward practice, especially with fresh beans and a consistent grinder.

Q: What does the 58mm portafilter with a 22g capacity mean in everyday use?

A: It means this machine uses a commercial style 58mm portafilter and can handle generous doses, with baskets suited to single or double shots. That gives more control over strength and extraction than smaller consumer baskets, especially for espresso based milk drinks.

Q: How does the 15 bar pump pressure relate to the 9 bar extraction on this machine?

A: The pump can generate 15 bar, but espresso is typically extracted at about 9 bar for a balanced shot. In practice, the higher pump capacity gives the machine headroom to maintain proper brewing pressure rather than forcing coffee through at 15 bar the whole time.

Q: Is the 2.5L water tank large enough for making several coffees in a row?

A: Yes. A 2.5L tank is generous for a home manual machine and usually suits multiple coffees before refilling. Actual cup count varies with shot size and steam use, but it is better suited to regular daily use than compact machines with smaller reservoirs.
