Size up your living space for your viewing pleasure

If you haven’t updated your TV in a few years, the model you have at home is probably Full HD, also known as 1080p. For a long time, that was the gold standard; it’s the resolution for traditional Blu-Rays.

In comparison, 4K has four times the pixel resolution of Full HD. That means you have sharper images with more detail. What you may not know is that those sharper images and extra pixels mean you could probably comfortably watch a much larger screen without having to rearrange your furniture.

In the years since it went mainstream, 4K screens have become considerably more affordable at larger sizes, and Hisense has been the reigning monarch of very good TVs at excellent prices for a long time. Televisions are measured diagonally, so a 75” TV has almost four times the screen real estate of a 42” TV, which was the average size LCD TV only five years ago.

How to choose the correctly sized TV for your space

But how can you tell which TV is the right size for your room? Well, that depends on what you are watching and how good the TV is at upscaling (upgrading a lower-quality picture into a higher resolution using AI). For Full HD content with no upscaling, a 35” TV located 1.35m away from your couch is ideal.

Meanwhile, if you’re watching 4K content such as Kayo, Foxtel or Netflix, you would want a 70” TV for the same distance. That gives you the optimal 30-degree viewing experience advised for watching a variety of things.

If you only watch movies, you may want to be even a bit closer for a 40-degree field of view. Given the rise in popularity of 4K content, the drop in price of 4K Blu-Rays, the vast majority of video games being available in 4K, and the huge amount of 4K content for streaming and on pay TV, opting for a bigger screen will take advantage of all of it. If your TV scales content to 4K, then, even if you’re watching live-to-air sports, you will want to enjoy it on the big screen and feel like you are there.

When to choose a Hisense Laser TV

For those with a large living room, a 100” screen may be ideal. There are a few ways to get one: you could order a large OLED TV that is only available overseas or set up a projector, projector screen, amplifier, TV tuner and surround sound system. Or you could invest in a Hisense Laser TV.

If you have gone to the movies at a fancy cinema, you’ve probably seen laser projectors in action. Laser projectors are better than traditional bulb projectors because their only maintenance required is the occasional cleaning of a filter. In comparison, most bulb projectors require a new $300-400 bulb every few years.

Laser projectors are also generally more energy efficient, have better picture quality and can have a much shorter throw distance. That shorter throw distance is how the Hisense Series L 100” Laser TV manages to give you a massive 100” 4K HDR picture without having to ceiling-mount a projector. Instead you can place the relatively small projector on the TV cabinet in front of the very thin, wall-mounted screen.

However, if your budget is tight but you still want a massive screen, Hisense also has more affordable 85” and 98” ULED TVs.

There is really no better time to want a big home cinema without needing Hollywood budgets.

TV technology options explained

  • ULED: Similar to regular LED TVs, but leveraging some of Hisense’s patents to help bridge the quality gap between LED and OLED.
  • OLED: Organic Light Emitting Diodes, considered by many to be the gold standard of commercially available TV panels.
  • Laser projection: Bring the cinema home with the same technology used in IMAX theatres.
  • VIDAA: Provides a smart TV experience thanks to enhanced AI, simplified interface and universal search functionality.
