At a glance
The Karcher WD5 S is a wet and dry barrel vacuum designed for garages, workshops, cars and renovation mess. Its 30 L capacity, 1100 W motor and switchable floor nozzle make it practical for larger clean-ups across hard floors and carpet. It suits buyers who want strong utility cleaning without smart extras. The trade-off is its barrel design is bulkier than lighter indoor-focused vacuums.

Things to consider
Its 8.78 kg barrel design is more cumbersome to move and store than lighter stick or compact indoor vacuums, and it does not include pet-focused tools or smart features.
Pet hair performance score
4/10 - capable of general pickup, but it is not pet-friendly rated and does not include a dedicated pet hair tool.
Large home suitability
Good for utility areas and bigger clean-up jobs, though its barrel form is better suited to storage zones, garages and workshops than whole-home everyday vacuuming.
Carpet vs hard floor fit
Best for mixed utility surfaces, with a switchable nozzle that works across tiles and carpets.
Noise level rating
5/10 - likely acceptable for workshop-style cleaning, but not positioned as a low-noise model.
Portability rating
6/10 - the carrying handle helps, but the 8.78 kg body and barrel size make it less portable than smaller vacuums.
Key benefits
- 30 L Capacity: Large barrel size handles bigger clean-ups with fewer trips to empty the drum.
- Wet And Dry Cleaning: Picks up both liquid spills and dry debris, making it more versatile for utility spaces.
- 1100 W Motor: Delivers the power needed for heavier mess in garages, workshops and renovation areas.
- 240 Pa Suction Power: Supports solid pickup performance for general utility cleaning tasks.
- Switchable Floor Nozzle: Adapts between tiles and carpets for more flexible cleaning across mixed surfaces.
- Crevice Nozzle: Reaches tight corners, edges and car interiors more easily than a standard floor head.
- 3-in-1 Carrying Handle: Makes carrying, opening and emptying the unit easier during larger clean-up jobs.
- 6 m Power Cord: Gives longer reach before needing to change power points in larger work areas.
Q: Is this better for garage mess than everyday indoor vacuuming?
A: Yes. Karcher WD5 S is built for utility cleaning, with wet and dry pickup and a large barrel for heavier debris. Its barrel format is less compact and less convenient for quick everyday indoor vacuuming than a lighter household cleaner.
Q: Can it pick up liquid spills without using a dust bag?
A: Yes. Karcher WD5 S supports direct wet pickup, while the included fleece filter bag is for more contained dry dust collection. That makes it suitable for spills and renovation debris, but it is still a utility vacuum rather than a carpet deep-cleaner.
Q: How well does the WD5 S clean carpet compared with hard floors?
A: Karcher WD5 S suits both tiles and carpets with its switchable floor nozzle. It is a stronger fit for hard floors, garages and utility areas, while carpet cleaning is better for basic pickup than deep carpet care.
Q: Is the Karcher WD5 S good for pet hair around the house?
A: No, not as a pet-focused vacuum. Karcher WD5 S can collect general hair and debris, but it does not include a dedicated pet tool and its barrel design is aimed more at utility cleaning than routine whole-home fur pickup.
Q: Does the hose and cord give enough reach for cleaning a car?
A: Yes. Karcher WD5 S combines a 2.2 metre suction hose with a 6 metre cord, which helps around car interiors, footwells and entry areas. The large barrel is practical for bigger clean-ups, but less nimble in tight indoor rooms.
Q: Will this barrel vacuum be awkward to move and store?
A: Karcher WD5 S is manageable for utility spaces, with a patented 3-in-1 carrying handle to lift, transport and empty it more easily. Its 8.78kg barrel body and 69.3cm height make it bulkier than a compact everyday vacuum.
