Great price and works well
Bought this unit for a spare bedroom. It works really well - cools down the room quickly and was easy to set up and use.

Reliable
Purchased this portable aircon early January 2026. Needed it for a small room. This compact unit did the job. Keep room at a comfortable temperature. Great for small rooms. Will need a window for the outlet vent. My only issue is the length of the plates for the vent was too short. Not a deal breaker though.

Very decent cooler
We purchased to use in holiday accommodation. Average size bedroom. Cooled very effectively. Was a little noisy but we were still able to sleep well. Installation was easy.

Would not recommend
The window install kit is way too small and very flimsy, only good for really small window, had to make an extension, not designed for sliding sideway windows, unless they are very small. Also the tube that is attached is totally inadequate, it just pushes in, does not screw in properly and falls out every time you move it. The unit although it goes down to 18 would only be adequate for a small room, as it is only felt when you are right in front of it, very disappointed in the quality. Not good value for the money.

Compact unit works well but noisy
Fits in a tight spot and cools the 3x3 room down real quick. It is very noisy in a small room. Ok if your on your own but difficult to hear each other when talking.

At a glance
The Dimplex 2.6kW Portable AC w/ Dehumidifier is a practical portable cooling option for bedrooms, studies and small living areas up to 20 m2. It is easy to move, simple to install and adds moisture removal for humid days. Touch controls, a timer and adjustable thermostat make daily use straightforward. The main limitation is that it is better suited to smaller rooms than larger open-plan spaces.

Room size suitability
Up to 20 m2
Portability rating
7/10 - compact portable format and room-to-room flexibility, though 20.8 kg means it is not especially light.
Noise level vs category average
5/10 - 54 dBA is about average for a portable air conditioner, so it will be noticeable in quiet rooms.
Energy efficiency score
5/10 - suitable for spot cooling in rooms up to 20 m2, but no Australian Energy Rating star value is provided.
Ease of installation
8/10 - included window kit and portable design make setup easier than fixed air conditioning options.

- Included Window Kit: Helps simplify setup so you can get the unit running without a complex installation process.

- 24-Hour Timer: Lets you schedule operation around sleep, work hours or arrival home for added convenience.

Q: Will this portable air conditioner cool a standard bedroom well?
A: Yes. Dimplex DCP9C is sized for rooms up to 20m2, so it suits a standard bedroom, study or small living area best. In a larger or open-plan room, cooling will be less effective because the unit is designed for enclosed smaller spaces.
Q: Does it need a window for venting during cooling?
A: Yes. Dimplex DCP9C needs its exhaust set up through a suitable window when it is cooling, and a window kit is included. It is a practical choice where the hose can reach the window, but room-to-room use still depends on having a suitable vent point.
Q: How noisy is the Dimplex DCP9C at night?
A: Dimplex DCP9C is rated at 54dBA, which is typical for a portable air conditioner rather than whisper quiet. It can suit bedroom use, but you should expect audible operating noise overnight, especially in a smaller room.
Q: Is the window kit suitable for every window type?
A: No. The included window kit is designed to make setup easier in suitable windows, but portable air conditioners are not equally simple in every window style. If your window opening is unusual, allow for extra effort to vent the exhaust neatly.
Q: What should I know before moving it between rooms?
A: Dimplex DCP9C is portable, but at 20.8kg it is more of a move-when-needed unit than something you will want to carry constantly. It is practical between rooms when each room has a suitable window position for the exhaust kit.
Q: Is this a good option for larger open-plan spaces?
A: No. Dimplex DCP9C is aimed at rooms up to 20m2, so it is a better fit for enclosed bedrooms, studies and smaller living areas. In larger open spaces, the unit can still move air, but the temperature drop will usually be less noticeable.
