Things to consider
At 65 dB and without an inverter compressor, it is likely to sound more noticeable and may feel less refined than quieter premium portable air conditioners.
Room size suitability
Up to 26 m²; best suited to medium rooms such as bedrooms and living areas.
Portability rating
8/10 - portable format makes it easy to use in different rooms, though it still needs window venting.
Noise level vs category average
4/10 - 65 dB is on the louder side for a portable air conditioner, particularly for quiet bedroom use.
Energy efficiency score
5/10 - no inverter compressor or star rating is provided, so this appears average rather than class-leading for energy performance.
Ease of installation
8/10 - the included window kit helps simplify setup for typical room use.
Key benefits
- 3.8 kW Cooling Capacity: Delivers strong cooling for medium-sized rooms up to 26 m².
- 1.8 L/hour Dehumidifying Capacity: Helps reduce excess moisture for a more comfortable indoor feel in humid conditions.
- Wi-Fi Connectivity: Lets you adjust settings or schedule cooling remotely through the Glen Dimplex Connect app.
- 24-Hour Timer: Allows you to run the unit only when needed, including pre-cooling a room before you arrive.
- Touch and Remote Controls: Gives you flexible, easy operation whether you are beside the unit or across the room.
- 16 to 31 °C Thermostat Range: Makes it easy to fine-tune comfort to suit changing weather and personal preference.
- Window Kit Included: Supports correct venting for faster setup without needing extra accessories.
- Portable Design: Offers a flexible cooling option for homes where fixed air conditioning is not practical.
Q: Does this portable air conditioner need to vent through a window?
A: Yes. Dimplex DCP40EB includes a window kit and needs proper venting during air conditioning use, so warm air can be expelled outside. It suits rooms where a window can be used for the exhaust setup rather than fully sealed spaces.
Q: Is 65dB too loud for using this in a bedroom?
A: Dimplex DCP40EB runs at 65dB, so the sound is noticeable in a bedroom, especially overnight. It can still suit sleeping spaces if noise tolerance is not a major issue, but buyers wanting a quieter night-time setup may find it more audible than expected.
Q: Will it cool an open-plan room larger than 26m2?
A: No. Dimplex DCP40EB is suited to rooms around 26m2, so larger or open-plan areas can reduce how effectively it cools. It is a better fit for a closed bedroom, living room or study where the cooled air stays contained.
Q: Can I control the DCP40EB when I'm away from home?
A: Yes. Dimplex DCP40EB has Wi-Fi and works with the Glen Dimplex Connect app, so settings and schedules can be adjusted remotely. It is not listed as smart home compatible, so app control is the main remote-control option rather than voice assistant use.
Q: Does the Dimplex DCP40EB also heat, or cooling only?
A: It is a cooling-only portable air conditioner with a dehumidifying function. Dimplex DCP40EB is designed to cool the room and remove moisture, but it is not a reverse-cycle model, so it does not provide a heating mode for winter use.
