Pretty great
My last coffee machine was the same model and lasted ten years, so I bought this to replace it but in white. The white coating seems durable enough so far and thankfully has not retained any coffee stains despite a few weeks of heavy use. These dual boilers are great to learn on and also very versatile without spending thousands on "the next step". You will need a good coffee grinder to go with it, and I'd recommend a DF54 or Niche Zero rather than a Breville Smart Grinder. You will also need some sensitive scales. You will only ever need to use the double shot non-pressurised basket and I also recommend getting a Breville bottomless handle as it will help you pull better shots. Overall it will take a few bags of fresh beans from a roastery and a sensitive scale to learn to use this so have patience and keep a notebook. You will need to be buying or ordering in small bags of fresh beans every two weeks or so, that's coffee life.

Right choice of coffee machine
I upgraded to Breville from another brand snd I am very satisfied with this make and model. The coffee comes out hot and the frother is amazing, milk is like silk. It's easy to clean and I love the dual boiler. Highly recommend 👌

Best coffee machine I've had
This coffee machine is great and all the parts feel like good quality. It makes a perfect coffee and I love that if you make more than one espresso shot the brew temp does not change like in other machines. The white colour is slightly pearly and is a perfect slight warm white that will look amazing in my new kitchen.

Awesome coffee
The BDB makes really great coffee. We picked up some beans from out local cafe and can’t notice the difference between the coffee their machines makes vs the BDB

Barista experience suitability
High - strong fit for users who want manual control over espresso extraction and milk texturing
Ease of cleaning score
7/10 - manageable for a dual boiler machine, but the steam wand, portafilter and drip areas still need regular cleaning
Beginner friendliness
6/10 - automatic functions help, but getting the best results still takes practice
Counter space suitability
7/10 - compact for its class, though still better suited to kitchens with dedicated bench space
Noise level vs category average
About average - typical pump and steaming noise for a manual espresso machine
Key benefits
- Dual boiler system: Brew espresso and steam milk at the same time for faster cafe-style drink making.
- 2.5 L water tank: Supports multiple coffees in a row with less frequent refilling.
- 15 bar pump: Provides the pressure needed for consistent espresso extraction.
- 2200 W power: Delivers strong heating performance for brewing and steaming tasks.
- 58 mm stainless steel portafilter: Fits up to 22 g of ground coffee for single or double shots with a more barista-style workflow.
- Steam wand: Creates smooth microfoam milk suited to lattes, cappuccinos and flat whites.
- Heated grouphead: Helps maintain stable brewing conditions for more reliable shot results.
- Manual and automatic settings with shot clock: Gives flexibility for guided brewing or more precise hands-on espresso timing.
Q: Does this machine need a separate coffee grinder to work properly
A: Yes. The Dual Boiler uses ground coffee in a 58mm portafilter and does not include a built-in grinder. To get consistent espresso, it is best paired with a quality grinder so grind size can be adjusted for your beans.
Q: Can it brew espresso and steam milk at the same time
A: Yes. Breville The Dual Boiler has separate boilers for extraction and steaming, so milk texturing can happen while the shot is pouring. That makes it better suited to back-to-back flat whites than a single-boiler machine.
Q: Is the steam wand automatic or do you texture milk yourself
A: You texture the milk yourself. Breville The Dual Boiler uses a manual steam wand, which gives more control over microfoam for latte-style drinks, but it also means there is more technique involved than with automatic frothing systems.
Q: How many coffees can it make before needing a refill
A: Breville The Dual Boiler has a 2.5L water tank, so it is built for multiple coffees in one session without constant refilling. The exact number of drinks varies with shot size, steam use and whether you use the hot water outlet.
Q: Is Breville The Dual Boiler hard to learn for beginners
A: No, but it is not a plug-and-forget machine. Breville The Dual Boiler offers manual and automatic shot options to ease the learning curve, though getting the best result still takes practice with grind size, dose and milk texturing.
Q: Can you save shot settings or is every coffee fully manual
A: It supports both. Breville The Dual Boiler lets you pull shots manually or use automatic shot control for repeatable single or double espresso volumes. That flexibility suits households that want consistency but still like to fine-tune extraction.
Q: Will shot temperature stay consistent across several coffees in a row
A: Breville The Dual Boiler is designed for stable extraction across consecutive shots because the brew system is separate from the steam boiler and the group head is heated. It suits households making several coffees without waiting for the machine to recover.
