Find the Perfect Computer Storage Solution for Your Needs
Ensure your digital life is organised and secure with top-notch computer storage solutions. From external hard drives to high-capacity solid-state drives, The Good Guys offers a wide range of products to meet your storage needs.
Hard Disk Drives and Solid-State Drives are the most common computer storage methods.
Hard Disk Drives (HDDs): Known for their affordability and high storage capacity, HDDs are widely used for storing large amounts of data, such as documents, photos, and videos.
Solid-State Drives (SSDs): SSDs are faster and more durable, making them ideal for operating systems and frequently accessed files. Popular options include Solid State Drives.
For external storage, Portable Hard Drives are a reliable choice for backing up important data.
Computer storage devices can be categorised into internal and external options. Here are the five most common types:
Hard Disk Drives (HDDs): Traditional storage devices offering high capacity.
Solid-State Drives (SSDs): Faster and more reliable than HDDs.
USB Drives: Compact and portable, like those found in the USB Drives section.
Memory Cards: Often used in cameras and portable devices.
Cloud Storage: Virtual storage accessed online for added convenience.
Whether you need a Samsung Storage solution or Western Digital Storage, The Good Guys has options to suit every need.
While both terms relate to data storage, they serve different purposes.
Storage Drive: A broader term encompassing both HDDs and SSDs. Drives are physical devices that store and retrieve digital information. For example, a Dell Computer Storage solution may include an SSD or an HDD.
Disk: Specifically refers to physical storage media, such as CDs, DVDs, or Blu-ray discs. These are less commonly used today due to the popularity of external drives and cloud storage.
Modern storage solutions like Seagate Storage and Apple Computer Accessories provide faster and more convenient alternatives.
Modern SSDs and HDDs offer substantial capacity for internal storage, but HDDs typically come in larger maximum sizes.
HDDs: These can reach up to 20TB or more, making them ideal for extensive data storage.
SSDs: Although smaller in maximum size, SSDs like 1TB SSD or 2TB SSD options are faster and more reliable.
External Drives: External solutions, such as Samsung Portable Hard Drives, are perfect for backups and portability.
For advanced needs, Western Digital Portable Hard Drives offer high-capacity solutions.

Back in the 1950s – when The Good Guys first appeared – Australia was marking a lot of firsts. Australia’s first digital computer was publicly demonstrated in 1951. The CSIRAC was roughly the size of a bedroom, and it was the first digital computer in the world to play music. It had no operating system, and its internal memory could only hold 768 words, roughly the length of this article.
In less than a century, we’ve gone from massive machines that couldn’t do much, to iPads that can entertain children with every cartoon ever made. It was machines like the CSIRAC that paved the way for Fitbits, laptops, tablets, smartphones and the internet. So now, we all have our own computers.
As The Good Guys celebrate 70 years of helping Australians pay less every day, we ponder what’s next in family-friendly tech.
