At a glance
The Hoover CleanSlate SpotWasher is a compact spot cleaner for carpets and upholstery, ideal for homes with pets, kids or frequent spills. Its light 4.4 kg design, 1.18 L clean tank and included stain tools make quick clean-ups easy. It is especially handy on stairs, couches and car interiors. The main limitation is that it is built for targeted spots rather than whole-room deep cleaning.

Things to consider
This model is best for spot treatment and small messes, so it is less suitable than larger carpet washers for full-room cleaning or faster coverage over big carpeted areas.
Pet stain removal score
8/10 - strong fit for pet accidents and tracked-in mess thanks to targeted tools and portable spot-cleaning design.
Large area suitability
Moderate - suitable for stairs, rugs and repeated spot cleaning, but not ideal as a full-size whole-room carpet cleaner.
Ease of use
9/10 - lightweight build, compact storage footprint and simple included tools make it approachable for quick everyday use.
Drying time rating
7/10 - designed for targeted extraction on small areas, though drying time will still vary by fabric type and how much solution is used.
Key benefits
- Portable 4.4 kg Design: Easy to carry between rooms, up stairs and out to the car for quick clean-ups.
- 1.18 L Clean Tank: Lets you clean multiple spills or a larger area before needing a refill.
- 680 mL Dirty Tank: Holds a practical amount of recovered dirty water to reduce emptying during spot cleaning.
- 5.5 m Power Cord: Gives extended reach across rooms, stairs and awkward spots without changing power points as often.
- 1.37 m Stretch Hose: Helps you reach couches, stairs, corners and car interiors more comfortably.
- Wide Path Tool: Covers larger spots such as stair treads and upholstery sections in fewer passes.
- Tight Spot Tool: Makes it easier to target crevices, corners and baseboards where larger tools struggle.
- Trial Cleaning Solution Included: Helps you get started straight away without needing to buy solution separately.
Q: Is this spot cleaner suitable for whole-room carpet cleaning?
A: No. Hoover CleanSlate is built for targeted stain removal on carpet, rugs and upholstery rather than washing an entire room in one go. It is a better fit for spills, pet messes and stairs than large open floor areas.
Q: How often do the tanks need refilling and emptying?
A: Hoover CleanSlate has a 1.18L clean tank and a 680mL dirty tank, so it can handle several small jobs before you need to stop. On heavier stains or wetter cleaning, the dirty tank will usually need attention first.
Q: Will the hose and cord reach stairs and car seats?
A: Yes. Hoover CleanSlate combines a 5.5m power cord with a 1.37m stretch hose, which gives useful reach for stairs, couches and most car interiors. It is still a portable spot cleaner, so very large vehicles may need a power point change.
Q: Which tools come with it for upholstery and tight spots?
A: It includes a Wide Path Tool for broader areas such as stairs or seat bases, a Tight Spot Tool for corners and crevices, and a 2-in-1 tool. That makes it more practical for mixed messes than a single fixed head design.
Q: Can it lift older pet stains from carpet and couches?
A: Yes, it is designed for spot cleaning pet messes and everyday stains on carpet and upholstery, using suction with a wash tool rather than surface scrubbing alone. Results still depend on the stain type, how long it has set, and the fabric being cleaned.
