Excellent machine
I'm really impressed with this carpet washer. We have multiple pets and the carpets had been taking a beating. This washer does an excellent job at bringing the carpets back to life. It has plenty of capacity and a long enough cord to move around freely. I'm really glad I bought it as we can use it on spills as they happen, rather than wait and hire something from the local supermarket. Definitely worth the money.

Very good
Have used to clean 3 bedrooms and find it very easy to use. Cleans well and has a large tank allowing for a deeper clean. Comes with a tool to clean the bristles. Highly recommended particularly if on sale

Great,
A simple easy to use system. Great suction and pulls out more water than any other system I've used at this price point.

Great floor shampooer
I have bought so many carpet shampooers over the years, this one has to be the best one so far. The brushes really bring up the pile, the water and solution tanks are large so less filling and emptying is required. The carpet is left a lot dryer than I expected and from the dirty water does a thorough clean.

Great product great price
Having used commercial carpet cleaners with mixed results I did some online research only to find this product came up a winner time and time again. Some let my fingers do the walking and checked prices on line before calling my local GoodGuys team. Not only did the GoodGuy match the price, they beat it by a good margin thanks to their (then) promo which was based on purchases above a base amount. Product is as good as its reviews and we’re very happy with the service from the local GoodGuys team. Well done team!

At a glance
The Hoover PowerScrub XL Carpet Washer is a practical full-size cleaner for households wanting to refresh larger carpeted rooms, hallways and stairs. Its large tanks, five SpinScrub brushes and included tools make it versatile for whole-home cleaning and spot treatment. It suits families and busy homes best. The main limitation is that it is a corded carpet washer rather than a lighter, more compact spot cleaner.
What it’s great for
- Whole-home carpet cleaning
- Large room refreshes
- Family home maintenance
- Stairs and upholstery spot cleaning
- Walkways and high-traffic areas
Where it works best
- Family rooms
- Hallways
- Carpeted living areas
- Bedrooms
- Stairs
Who it’s for
- Families
- Homeowners
- Renters with larger carpeted areas
- Pet owners
- Busy households
Things to consider
It is better suited to larger carpet-cleaning jobs than quick grab-and-go spills, so users wanting a very compact machine or specialist pet-focused stain system may prefer a lighter spot cleaner or premium model.
Pet stain removal score
8/10 - Strong brush action and tool support make it well suited to lifting common pet messes from carpet and fabric surfaces.
Large area suitability
9/10 - Large 3.8 L clean tank, 3.0 L dirty tank and 7 m cord make it a good fit for bigger carpeted zones.
Ease of use
8/10 - Straightforward full-size design with long reach and useful accessories, though it is less compact than a small spot cleaner.
Drying time rating
7/10 - HeatForce faster drying is a helpful advantage, but drying speed will still vary with carpet thickness and room conditions.
Key benefits
- 3.8 L clean tank: Covers more carpet before you need to stop and refill.
- 3.0 L dirty tank: Holds a substantial amount of recovered water to reduce interruptions during cleaning.
- Five SpinScrub brushes: Counter-rotating brushes help loosen embedded dirt for a deeper carpet clean.
- TruMAX recovery tank: Lets you clean for longer between emptying stops.
- 7 m power cord: Gives you longer reach across rooms and walkways before changing power points.
- 2.4 m hose: Makes it easier to clean stairs, edges and targeted fabric areas.
- Included upholstery and cleaning tools: Adds flexibility for spot cleaning beyond standard carpet passes.
- HeatForce faster drying: Helps carpets dry sooner after washing compared with wash-only cleaning.
Q: Is this carpet washer suitable for large carpeted areas?
A: Yes. The Hoover PowerScrub XL is built for larger carpeted spaces, with a 3.8L clean tank, 3.0L dirty tank and 7 metre cord to reduce stops. It is a full-size machine, so it needs more storage space than a compact spot cleaner.
Q: How well does it handle stairs and fabric furniture?
A: Yes. The Hoover PowerScrub XL includes a 2.4 metre hose plus upholstery and cleaning tools for stairs, spot cleaning and some fabric surfaces. It is designed for targeted cleaning rather than whole-couch cleaning with the main floor head.
Q: Will carpets be left very wet after cleaning?
A: It is designed to leave carpets drier than a basic wash-only pass, using water recovery and HeatForce faster drying. It still remains a deep-cleaning carpet washer, so carpet will need time to dry before normal use, especially after heavier cleaning.
Q: Can I use vinegar in the Hoover PowerScrub XL?
A: No. The Hoover PowerScrub XL comes with a trial cleaning solution and is intended for carpet cleaning solution rather than vinegar. Using the wrong liquid can affect cleaning performance and may leave residue in the machine or on carpet fibres.
Q: Does it suit homes with pets and regular spills?
A: Yes. Five counter-rotating SpinScrub brushes and the upholstery tool make it practical for regular carpet messes and spot cleaning. It does not include a pet-specific stain system, so stubborn odours may still need the right cleaning solution and repeat passes.
Q: Can the Hoover PowerScrub XL clean hard floors too?
A: Not as supplied. The Hoover PowerScrub XL includes carpet and upholstery tools, but a hard floor scrub attachment is a separate accessory. If hard floors are a main job, factor in the extra attachment rather than assuming it is in the box.
