What customers say, summarised by AI
- Shreds paper, staples, credit cards, and small plastics effectively.
- Lightweight build with solid construction and smooth operation.
- Quick shredding, handles multiple sheets, rarely jams during use.
- Lacks a drawer for collecting shreds and lacks cross-cut blades.
- Sizable strips may not meet strict security requirements for some users.
- Storage tank fills quickly but see-through window helps monitor capacity.
Pros
Cons
Call it a 3.9 it's ok i guess.
It's noisy compared to other models. The price doesn't seem right for the performance. It does seem to have a solid construction, but I do miss not having a draw to collect the shredded paper and no cross cut blades means larger strip's. So I really needed a different model for that reason. All good though, it seems to work ok with cutting up small plastics, getting them ready for recycling projects. Next time however, I will purchase a better cc/mc shredder.

Good shredder
It’s a good shredder. But not perfect. Fills quickly. Takes several sheets. Is quick to shred. If you want a simple shredder it does the job.

Powerhouse Shredder
Surprisingly lightweight but can chew through 10 pages. Bit smaller storage tank but with the see through window, know when to empty. Much quieter than the last shredder too.

At a glance
The Fellowes Powershred LX70 Cross-Cut Shredder is a practical personal shredder for households, students and light office users who need better document security than strip-cut models. Its main strengths are easy everyday use, cross-cut shredding for added privacy and a compact footprint. The main limitation is that it is better suited to light-to-moderate shredding rather than high-volume or continuous office use.

Things to consider
It offers a solid security and usability upgrade over basic personal shredders, but premium office models are better for larger bins, longer run times and heavier daily shredding volumes.
Home office suitability
Excellent for regular household paperwork, tax documents and personal admin in compact home workspaces.
Student suitability
8/10 - useful for disposing of notes, forms and personal paperwork, though heavy end-of-semester clear-outs may require breaks.
Eco-friendliness rating
6/10 - supports paper recycling workflows by securely destroying documents, but it is still an electric appliance with no standout eco-focused positioning.
Durability vs category average
7/10 - stronger and more confidence-inspiring than many basic personal shredders, but not built for demanding commercial workloads.
Ease of use score
8/10 - intuitive controls, personal-size format and low-fuss operation make it easy for most users to use confidently.
Key benefits
- Cross-Cut Shredding: Cuts paper into smaller pieces than strip-cut models for better everyday privacy on bills, statements and personal documents.
- SafeSense Technology: Helps stop shredding when hands touch the paper entry area, making it a more reassuring choice around shared workspaces.
- Compact Personal Design: Fits comfortably in home offices and under-desk setups where floor space is limited.
- Light-Duty Shredding Performance: Well suited to regular personal paperwork clear-outs without the bulk of a larger office shredder.
- Simple Controls: Straightforward operation makes it easy for casual users to start shredding with minimal setup or learning.
- Dedicated Waste Bin: Keeps shredded paper contained for tidier disposal and less mess around the desk.
- Staple and Paper Handling: Saves time on routine document disposal by handling common office sheets and typical stapled paperwork.
- Personal Security Upgrade: A better fit than entry strip-cut shredders for users who want stronger privacy protection without stepping up to a large office unit.
Q: Is the Fellowes Powershred LX70 suitable for shredding sensitive personal documents?
A: Yes. The LX70 uses cross-cut shredding, which cuts paper into much smaller pieces than a strip-cut model and is generally suited to bills, bank statements and personal records. For very high-security disposal, a micro-cut shredder is the better fit.
Q: Is the Fellowes LX70 better for home use or a busy shared office?
A: The LX70 is better suited to personal or light home office use than frequent shared-office shredding. Its 11-sheet class capacity and compact bin work well for daily paperwork, but large archive clean-outs are better handled by a higher-duty model.
Q: What can the Fellowes Powershred LX70 shred besides paper?
A: The LX70 can shred paper with staples attached and can also handle credit cards, which is useful for household document disposal. It is not designed as a general media shredder, so thick card, cardboard and bulk stacks should be avoided.
Q: How often will the bin need emptying on the Fellowes LX70?
A: It has an 18-litre bin, which is a practical size for regular home use without taking up much floor space. Cross-cut particles are compact, but a large clean-out of old files will still fill the bin noticeably faster than occasional daily shredding.
