Dyson V16 Piston Animal Cordlesa Vacuum
The vacuum is amazing. 2 people in the family have really long hair and in the 6 weeks we’ve had the vacuum there has been no hair caught. It’s very thorough and cleans the floors so well. The wall mount is great - easy to charge and conveniently store. I love my new vacuum!

Dyson
I’m really happy with my Dyson V16 Piston Animal. The suction is very powerful and it picks up dust, dirt and hair really well. I especially love the light on the cleaning head because it makes it so much easier to see dust and dirt on the floor. The cordless design makes cleaning quick and convenient, and I love that I don’t have to hold the trigger down while vacuuming. The dust-compacting feature is also very handy, and the battery lasts well enough for my regular cleaning.

Things to consider
It offers flagship cordless performance, but the higher purchase price may be harder to justify if you only need basic spot cleaning or mainly vacuum small hard-floor areas.
Pet hair performance score
9.7/10 - Excellent for pet households thanks to strong suction and anti-tangle pickup for pet and long hair up to 60 cm.
Carpet vs hard floor suitability
Highly capable on both carpet and hard floors, with Auto mode adapting suction and cleaner head behaviour to suit the surface.
Portability rating
9/10 - Cordless design, easy-release cleaner head and integrated tools make it very convenient for stairs, quick jobs and moving room to room.
Noise level vs category average
6.5/10 - Likely in line with or slightly louder than average at maximum power, which is typical for high-suction cordless vacuums.
Allergy friendliness
8/10 - Strong dust pickup and wipe-clean emptying support cleaner maintenance, though sensitive users may still prefer checking full filtration details separately.
Key benefits
- 315aw suction: Delivers very strong cordless cleaning power for lifting dirt, dust and debris from carpets and hard floors.
- Up to 70 minutes run time: Supports longer cleaning sessions before recharging, depending on mode and attachments used.
- All floor cones sense cleaner head: Automatically adapts in Auto mode to floor type for strong carpet cleaning while staying gentler on hard floors.
- Anti-tangle hair pickup: Engineered to remove and de-tangle pet hair and long hair up to 60 cm.
- Cleancompaktor bin: Compresses dust to hold up to 30 days of dust, helping reduce how often you need to empty it.
- Wipe-clean emptying: Strips the bin surfaces clean on emptying for more hygienic maintenance with fewer hair tangles left behind.
- Illuminated cleaning head: Helps reveal fine dust on floors that can be harder to see in normal lighting.
- Mydyson app connectivity: Gives access to cleaning insights, maintenance guidance and personalised settings through a compatible app-enabled device.
Q: Does floor sensing work in every power mode?
A: No. The Dyson V16 Piston Animal only auto adapts to floor type in Auto mode. Eco and Boost do not adjust to the surface, so choose the mode based on whether you want longer run time or maximum suction.
Q: Can the Dyson V16 Piston Animal vacuum wet spills?
A: No. Dyson V16 Piston Animal is a dry cordless vacuum, not a wet and dry cleaner. It is designed for dust, dirt and hair pickup around the home, so liquid spills need a model made for wet cleaning.
Q: Does the 70 minute runtime apply in Boost mode?
A: No. Dyson V16 Piston Animal reaches 70 minutes only in lower-power use, not in Boost mode. Boost is the highest suction setting and is better for short, stubborn clean-ups, while Auto or Eco suit longer sessions.
Q: Do you need the MyDyson app to use it?
A: No. The vacuum can be used normally without the MyDyson app. The app adds cleaning analysis, performance advice and personalised settings, and it needs Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, plus a compatible iOS 15 or Android 8 device.
Q: How often does the CleanCompaktor bin need emptying?
A: Dyson V16 Piston Animal compresses dust to hold up to 30 days' worth inside the bin in real-life use conditions. That can reduce emptying frequency, but homes with pets, more carpet or frequent use may still fill it sooner.
Q: Can it charge without using the wall dock?
A: Yes. Dyson V16 Piston Animal can be charged either directly into the machine or through the wall dock. The dock is convenient for storage, but it is not required for charging, and the charger stops when the battery reaches 100%.
