This works well for what it is, but too powerful and noisy for a bedroom.
There was no stock in SA or even Australia and by the time I received a small unit summer would be over. The smallest room air-conditioner available was this 4.1 kW unit far too big for what I needed but out of necessity I bought it.I had to go to a further store to find even this unit.

Don't buy an AC from the Good Guys!
Terrible, horrible customer experience! These guys are unrelentingly difficult to deal with. From repeated non-deliveries, infuriating Virtual Assistant, and useless service staff. Even the online ordering process is crap!

At a glance
The Dimplex DCB14 is a reverse cycle window or wall air conditioner designed for medium rooms up to 27m2, making it a practical fit for bedrooms, living areas and home offices. It offers flexible installation, simple remote control, sleep mode and a 24 hour timer. Its main trade-off is lower energy performance than many newer premium split systems, with 1.5 star cooling and 1 star heating ratings.

Things to consider
This unit is practical for existing window or wall openings, but its 1.5 star cooling and 1 star heating ratings mean it is less energy efficient than many modern premium split system alternatives.
Apartment cooling suitability
Good for apartments or units with a compatible window or wall opening and where a split system is not preferred.
Diy installation friendliness
5/10 - easier if replacing an existing compatible box unit, but cabinet dimensions must match and installation may still need professional help.
Noise level vs category
6/10 - 53dBA indoor noise is manageable for a window-wall unit, but generally more noticeable than quieter premium split systems.
Energy efficiency score
3/10 - 1.5 star cooling and 1 star heating ratings place it below more efficient modern alternatives.
Key benefits
- 4.1kW Cooling Capacity: Delivers solid cooling performance for rooms up to 27m2.
- 3.6kW Heating Output: Provides reverse cycle heating for year-round comfort in the same room.
- Window or Wall Installation: Offers flexible fitment for homes or apartments with a suitable existing opening.
- Three Fan Speeds: Lets you adjust airflow strength to match changing comfort needs.
- 24 Hour Timer: Helps schedule operation around your day or overnight routine.
- Sleep Mode: Supports more comfortable overnight operation with less need for manual adjustment.
- Remote Control: Makes it easy to change settings from across the room.
- Energy Rating: Cooling is rated 1.5 stars with estimated annual energy use of 511kWh, while heating is rated 1 star with estimated annual energy use of 724kWh.
Q: Will this fit an existing window wall air conditioner opening
A: It depends on the cabinet dimensions matching the existing opening. This model suits replacement installations best, while a new opening or a mismatched cavity may need extra carpentry or electrical work before it can be fitted.
Q: Is this reverse cycle box air conditioner cheap to run
A: No. Dimplex DCB14 has a 1.5 star cooling rating and a 1 star heating rating. That makes it more of a practical replacement-style unit than the best choice if lower running costs are your main priority.
Q: How loud is the Dimplex DCB14 inside a bedroom or office
A: Dimplex DCB14 is rated at 53dBA indoors. That is generally manageable for a bedroom or home office, but a window-wall unit is still noticeable in a quiet room, especially if you are used to a quieter split system.
Q: Can I use this in a rental without a split system
A: Yes, if the property already has a compatible window or wall opening. Dimplex DCB14 can be fitted in either location, but it is not a portable unit, so it still needs a fixed opening that suits the cabinet size.
Q: Does sleep mode make this better for overnight use
A: Yes. Sleep mode and the 24 hour timer make overnight operation easier to manage without repeated manual changes. It can suit bedroom use, but the indoor fan sound remains present because this is a window-wall unit.
Q: Are three fan speeds enough to control airflow in medium rooms
A: Yes. Three fan speeds give you a simple way to reduce or increase airflow as conditions change in a medium room. This model is designed for straightforward manual control, not the finer tuning or room-by-room zoning some buyers may expect.
