At a glance
This Bosch Series 8 built-under dishwasher is a premium choice for medium to large households wanting a quieter, high-capacity machine with flexible loading and strong drying results. It suits families that wash often and want an integrated kitchen look. Key strengths include 15 place settings, 42dB operation and Zeolith drying. One limitation is that it is built-under rather than fully integrated, so it will not hide completely behind cabinetry.

Things to consider
This model offers a built-under integrated look, but it is not a fully integrated panel-ready dishwasher for buyers wanting cabinetry to completely conceal the front.
Kitchen integration suitability
Very good for built-under 60cm kitchen cavities where an integrated look is preferred without full panel concealment
Family size fit
9/10 - 15 place settings suits medium to large households and frequent entertaining
Water efficiency score
9/10 - 5 star WELS rating and 12.2L per wash cycle
Noise level vs category
9/10 - 42dB is very quiet for a full-size dishwasher and well suited to open-plan homes
Ease of use rating
9/10 - flexible racks, adjustable basket, third drawer and 8 programmes make loading and daily use straightforward
Key benefits
- 15 Place Settings: Handles larger family meals and bulkier daily loads with fewer wash cycles.
- 42dB Quiet Operation: Runs with less disruption, making it easier to use at night or in open-plan homes.
- PerfectDry with Zeolith Drying Technology: Helps deliver more thorough drying, including hard-to-dry items like plastics.
- VarioDrawer Pro: Adds a dedicated third loading level for cutlery and utensils to free up space below.
- RackmaticPlus Upper Basket: The 3-stage height-adjustable upper basket makes it easier to fit taller glasses, platters and cookware.
- Extra Clean Zone: Gives heavily soiled dishes extra cleaning attention without needing a separate wash.
- Water Efficiency: Uses 12.2L per wash cycle with a 5 star WELS rating, helping keep water use lower.
- Energy Efficiency: Rated 4.5 stars with estimated annual energy consumption of 206kWh, supporting lower running costs over time.
Q: Will this dishwasher fit a standard 60cm built-under kitchen cavity?
A: Yes. Bosch SMU8ZCS01A is a built-under 60cm dishwasher, so it is designed for a standard 60cm cavity under a benchtop. It is not a fully integrated panel-ready model, so the brushed steel front remains visible after installation.
Q: How quiet is Bosch SMU8ZCS01A during a normal wash?
A: Bosch SMU8ZCS01A has a 42dB maximum noise level, which is low for a full-size dishwasher and suits open-plan kitchens better than louder models. It also includes ExtraQuiet and Silence on Demand options when lower operating noise matters more than speed.
Q: What does the VarioDrawer Pro actually make room for?
A: The VarioDrawer Pro adds a third loading level for cutlery and utensils, which frees more space in the lower basket for plates, bowls or cookware. It is best for flatter items, so very bulky utensils can still be easier to place elsewhere in the racks.
Q: Can the upper basket be adjusted for tall glasses and plates?
A: Yes. The upper basket uses RackmaticPlus with 3-stage height adjustment, so the layout can be changed to suit taller glasses above or larger plates below. Raising one area can reduce clearance in the other, so load shape still matters on fuller washes.
Q: Which loads benefit most from the Extra Clean Zone feature?
A: Heavily soiled items benefit most, such as casserole dishes, serving pieces and plates with dried-on residue. The Extra Clean Zone gives more targeted cleaning in that area, but it is not a separate mini wash, so overall loading still affects final results.
Q: Does this Bosch dishwasher come with any useful extras in the box?
A: Yes. Bosch SMU8ZCS01A includes a GlassSecure Tray SMZ5300 as well as the user manual. The tray is useful if you regularly wash delicate glassware, and it is included in the box rather than needing to be bought as a separate accessory.
