At a glance
This Bosch Series 6 built-under dishwasher is a strong mid-range choice for families wanting high capacity, flexible loading and a premium-looking black finish. It suits busy homes with mixed dish sizes thanks to the VarioDrawer, adjustable baskets and versatile wash programs. Key strengths are its 15 place setting capacity, 5.5 star WELS water rating and AquaStop Plus protection. One limitation is that it lacks the premium extras and specialist wash customisation found higher up the range.

Key benefits
- 15 Place Settings: Handles larger family meals and entertaining loads in fewer cycles.
- VarioDrawer: Adds a third loading level for cutlery and small utensils, freeing up basket space below.
- Adjustable Top Basket: Makes it easier to fit taller glasses, plates and awkward items.
- Foldable Racks: Helps accommodate larger cookware and different load shapes more easily.
- Multiple Wash Programs: Lets you choose Eco Wash, Auto Wash, Pots & Pans or Quick 1 Hr to better match the load.
- Heat Exchanger Drying: Gently dries dishes while helping protect plastics from temperature shock.
- 5.5 Star WELS Rating: Uses 11.1 L per wash cycle, helping keep water use lower in regular household use.
- AquaStop Plus: Adds leak protection for extra peace of mind in busy family kitchens.
Q: Is this Bosch dishwasher integrated or built-under with visible controls?
A: No. Bosch Series 6 SMP6HCB01A is a built-under dishwasher, so the appliance front and controls remain visible rather than sitting behind a full cabinet panel. It suits kitchens wanting a finished black front, not a fully integrated look.
Q: Does the drying system work well for plastic containers and lids?
A: Yes. Bosch Series 6 SMP6HCB01A uses heat exchanger drying, which dries dishes more gently and helps reduce temperature shock on plastics. Lightweight containers, lids and deep plastic items can still hold some water at the end of a cycle.
Q: Will it fit tall plates and stemware in one load?
A: Yes, for many everyday loads. The adjustable top basket and foldable racks help make room for taller glasses, plates and larger cookware, but very tall items in both baskets at once can still mean rearranging the load.
Q: Is it quiet enough for open-plan kitchens and night cycles?
A: Yes. Bosch Series 6 SMP6HCB01A operates at 44dBA, which suits many open-plan kitchens and later-evening cycles. It is not silent, so in a very quiet room nearby you may still notice water movement, draining and pump noise.
Q: Can the VarioDrawer replace a standard cutlery basket?
A: Yes. Bosch Series 6 SMP6HCB01A uses a VarioDrawer as a third level for cutlery and smaller utensils, which can free room in the lower racks for plates and pans. Bulky serving tools or long utensils may still fit more easily below.
Q: Is the black stainless finish hard to keep looking clean?
A: No. Bosch Series 6 SMP6HCB01A has a brushed black steel finish with an anti-fingerprint coating, so it is designed to show fewer marks in daily use. It will still need wiping around the handle, edges and any splash-prone areas.
Q: What does AquaStop Plus leak protection mean in practice?
A: AquaStop Plus is a built-in leak protection feature that is designed to respond if the dishwasher detects certain water faults during operation. It adds protection during use, but it is not a guarantee against every plumbing or installation issue.
