  Ideal addition for ARLO Camera Setup

  If you can't or don't want to get a permanent power supply to an outdoor camera then this Solar Panel is an ideal addition to the camera setup. Any outdoor camera these days needs to be on 24/7 if its is going to make the most of the security benefits it can provide. I found that running the camera just on batteries for 24 hours a day, even with some camera options turned off, then the battery would only last around 3 to 4 weeks depending on the number of trigger movements it receives. If the location where you need to put the camera is difficult to get to then changing and charging the batteries regularly can become a bit of a pain and unless you buy spare batteries then when the camera is on charge it is not monitoring the property. Also if you are away from the property for some time then you can forget all about the battery running out. The Solar Panel is very smart, light and a well built product. I would have preferred colour options other than just white to blend in but because of its size it isn't overly obtrusive and dependent on location the black solar panel helps to hide it against a roof colour. The screw fixing mount for the panel, which has a swivel neck, is only about 10cm long so you need to consider where you are going to locate it so that the panels will get as much sun as possible. I was planning to fit the mount under the eaves near the camera but the mount wasn't long enough for the panel to clear the guttering. In the end I was able to screw it to some roof flashing above on the corner of the roof and the 1 1/2m cable could still easily reach the camera and be tucked away under the flashing out of site. So perhaps before purchasing work things out where it will go first. Also of importance as the camera works through your home wifi then you need to ensure that you will get a good wifi signal at the camera location. The panel also only provides a trickle charge to the camera so try to position it as much into the sun as possible and fully charge the battery first as it will take some time to get the battery up to 100% if it is low. I have had mine in place now for nearly 4 weeks [August] and the charge has never dropped below 100% despite being in winter weather. I also feel the value of the product is good given what you are getting and against having to buy spare batteries. Overall I am very pleased with the product and can recommend it.
