Bought this product hoping I can access the recording video remotely. It turned out very very complicated to do so via VNP. Very disappointing and don’t know what to do with it now.

I was forced to buy this to avoid having to pay the ongoing Arlo subscription for the recording function. Not very intuitive to setup (despite what Arlo claims), but I managed after painfully going through the various user forums. Recording and floodlight function is still not user friendly. Once it breaks I'll be looking at replacing them with other brands that doesn't lock you into their sub-optimal eco- and/or subscription system.

Took a while to setup. I had to call Arlo and be on a call for 45mins but finally got it working. Tip: You have to completely disconnect and re-add all your cameras in order for the app to recognise the new Arlo Base station.

Purchased this to replace original Arlo base station which was starting to play up. This is much stronger and operates smoothly.

The Arlo Smarthub Base Station acts as the central hub for Arlo wireless security cameras, improving connectivity and providing local video storage. Ideal for homeowners seeking a simple, reliable way to manage multiple cameras, it excels in ease of use and compatibility. Its main limitation is that it does not support advanced smart home integrations found in some premium systems.
Lacks advanced smart home automation features available in higher-end hubs.
Compatible with most Arlo wireless cameras; check specific model compatibility before purchase.
9/10 - Simple plug-and-play setup with guided app instructions.
Best for small to medium homes; may require Wi-Fi extenders for very large properties.
3/10 - Designed for indoor use only; not weatherproof.
A: The VMB4540 works with selected Arlo wire-free cameras, including models such as Arlo Ultra, Ultra 2, Pro 3 and Pro 4. It does not support every Arlo camera, so the exact camera model should be matched to Arlo's current compatibility list before buying.
A: The VMB4540 is an Arlo SmartHub that links compatible Arlo cameras to your home network through one central base unit. It is mainly used to manage supported cameras and add local storage via the hub, rather than pairing each camera only by direct Wi-Fi.
A: Yes, the VMB4540 supports local storage using a microSD card in the hub, which gives an alternative to cloud-only recording. The card is generally sold separately, and local storage does not automatically provide the same cloud history or app features as an Arlo plan.
A: The VMB4540 typically supports up to 15 Arlo cameras on one hub, depending on the camera mix and network conditions. That makes it suitable for larger multi-camera setups, but exact performance can vary if several cameras are recording or streaming at the same time.
A: No, not all Arlo cameras need the VMB4540, because some models can connect directly to home Wi-Fi. This hub is most relevant for camera models that are designed for SmartHub pairing or for buyers who want hub-based features such as local storage.
A: The main difference is camera compatibility rather than a simple generational upgrade.
