Easy to order, but not collect
The product is perfect, as was the ordering process over the phone. I waited a week to collect it from my local store, but no message came. Finally went into the store, and my product was waiting there for me in the storeroom. They apparently only have one team member of ho fills phone orders. Next time I’ll head into store to purchase.

At a glance

It suits casual to regular gamers wanting familiar comfort, simple pairing and headset support. Textured grips and the hybrid D-pad help with control during longer sessions. Things to consider
It relies on AA batteries instead of built-in rechargeable charging, and it lacks the advanced tuning and extra inputs found on premium competitive controllers.
Platform compatibility
Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Windows 10, Windows 11, supported mobile devices
Competitive gaming suitability
7/10 - reliable layout and wired USB-C option, but lacks premium competitive extras like remappable rear inputs or advanced trigger tuning
Comfort score
8/10 - full-size shape and textured contact points make it comfortable for most players over long sessions
Customisation flexibility
5/10 - good multi-device pairing, but limited hardware customisation compared with specialist premium controllers
Portability rating
8/10 - wireless use and mobile compatibility make it easy to carry between console, PC and supported handheld setups
Key benefits
- Cross-Platform Connectivity: Works with Xbox consoles, Windows PCs and supported mobile devices for a more consistent gaming setup across screens.
- Bluetooth Support: Pairs with many compatible phones, tablets and PCs without needing a separate wired connection.
- Xbox Wireless: Delivers quick, native-style connection with compatible Xbox consoles for convenient everyday play.
- Hybrid D-pad: Helps with more precise directional inputs for menus, platformers, fighting games and general control.
- Textured Grip Surfaces: Textured triggers, bumpers and back help the controller stay comfortable and steady during longer sessions.
- 3.5 mm Audio Jack: Lets you plug in a compatible headset directly for chat and game audio.
- USB-C Wired Play: Supports plug-in play over USB-C when you want a simple wired connection.
- Up to 40 Hours Battery Life: Offers long play time before battery replacement, making it practical for regular gaming.
Q: Can this Xbox controller connect to a PC without a cable?
A: Yes. It supports wireless play on supported Windows 10 PCs using Bluetooth or Xbox Wireless. Some PCs need built-in Bluetooth or a compatible Xbox Wireless adaptor, so wireless pairing is not guaranteed on every desktop straight away.
Q: Will this controller work with iPhone, iPad and Android games?
A: Yes. It can pair with iOS and Android devices over Bluetooth for supported games and apps. Mobile support still depends on the app, because some titles are touch-only and may not recognise a controller even when pairing succeeds.
Q: What battery setup does the Carbon Black Xbox controller use?
A: This controller can run on AA batteries and also supports a compatible rechargeable battery option. Charging behaviour depends on the battery fitted, so AA cells are replaced when flat rather than charged through the controller itself.
Q: Does the 3.5mm jack carry both game audio and chat?
A: Yes. The 3.5mm jack is for a compatible wired headset, so it can handle in-game audio and voice chat on supported devices. It does not make a wireless headset pair to the controller, and headset support can vary by platform.
Q: Is button remapping enough for custom controls in competitive games?
A: Button remapping helps change the control layout, but this is still a standard controller rather than a specialist competitive one. It does not add extra rear buttons, trigger locks or swappable parts for deeper hardware customisation.
Q: Can it switch between Xbox, PC and mobile easily?
A: Yes. It is designed to pair with Xbox consoles, Windows 10 PCs, iOS and Android devices, and to switch between supported devices. The exact switching steps can vary depending on which device was paired last and how it connects.
