Great fridge overall for the price
Overall a great fridge, especially considering the price. We are having a bit of a drama with the ice maker at the moment, but the good guys are organising a service technician to rectify.

great layout, wide shelves
a great replacement for an old 2 x door fridge, which had a narrow freezer on the left, with no much space. this fridge with double door has wide shelves and heaps of storage options in the single drawer freezer at the bottom

At a glance
The Hisense 634L French Door Refrigerator is a spacious family fridge designed for large households, bulk shopping and regular entertaining. It stands out for its wide layout, flexible shelving, plumbed water, automatic ice maker and WiFi connectivity. The main trade-off is its 3 star energy rating, which is practical rather than especially frugal compared with some more efficient premium models.
What it’s great for
- Large family food storage
- Bulk grocery shops
- Entertaining at home
- Storing platters and tall bottles
- Everyday chilled water and ice access
Where it works best
- Family kitchens
- Open-plan homes
- Entertaining areas
- Busy households
- Modern kitchens with counter-depth cabinetry
Who it’s for
- Large families
- Frequent hosts
- Bulk shoppers
- Households wanting plumbed water and ice
- Connected-home users
Things to consider
Its 3 star energy rating is more average than class-leading, so shoppers prioritising lower running costs may prefer a more energy-efficient premium alternative.
Family suitability score
9/10 - Large 634L capacity, wide shelves and strong freezer space make it well suited to bigger households.
Entertaining suitability
9/10 - Full width storage, tall-bottle capacity, plumbed water and up to 2.4kg of ice support frequent hosting.
Fresh food storage performance
8/10 - The 438L fridge section, pantry space and adjustable shelving make fresh food organisation practical and versatile.
Energy efficiency vs category
6/10 - The 3 star energy rating is serviceable for this size but not especially efficient versus stronger-rated alternatives.
Kitchen space fit
Counter-depth design suits kitchens aiming for a more built-in, streamlined look while still delivering large internal capacity.
Key benefits
- 634L total capacity: Gives large households generous room for weekly shops, party food and bulk-buy storage.
- 438L fridge compartment: Provides substantial fresh food space for everyday family use.
- 196L lower freezer drawer: Offers deep frozen storage for meats, prepared meals and long-term staples.
- Flexible cantilever shelving: Makes it easier to reconfigure shelf height for taller items and changing grocery loads.
- XXL door balcony: Helps store large bottles and frequently used items without crowding the main shelves.
- Full width pantry: Suits platters, pizzas and entertaining foods that need a broad, easy-access storage zone.
- Plumbed water dispenser and automatic ice maker: Delivers chilled water on demand and up to 2.4kg of ice for daily convenience and gatherings.
- Built-in WiFi with app control: Lets you monitor and manage the fridge remotely through the ConnectLife app.
Q: Does this fridge need plumbing for the water and ice maker
A: Yes. HRFD634BW has a plumbed water dispenser and an automatic ice maker, so it needs a connected water line. It is not a refillable reservoir design, which matters if the fridge cavity does not have nearby plumbing.
Q: Will the counter-depth design sit flush with my kitchen cabinets
A: No. Counter-depth means HRFD634BW is designed to sit closer to standard cabinetry than a full-depth fridge, not fully disappear into it. The doors still need front and side clearance so they can open properly and the freezer drawer can extend.
Q: Is the bottom freezer better for bulk frozen food storage
A: Yes. The lower freezer drawer gives HRFD634BW a 196L frozen-food zone with wide access for larger packs and stacked containers. It suits bulk buying, but drawer storage can mean more layering than shelves behind separate freezer doors.
Q: Can I adjust the shelves for tall bottles and serving platters
A: Yes. HRFD634BW uses flexible cantilever shelving, a full width pantry and an XXL door balcony to help organise tall bottles and wide platters. Final clearance still depends on how you set the shelves, so very tall items may need a shelf moved.
Q: What can the ConnectLife app control on this fridge
A: Built-in WiFi lets HRFD634BW be monitored and controlled through the ConnectLife app. That is useful for checking or changing fridge settings away from the kitchen, but app control depends on a working home network and does not replace the fridge controls.
Q: Is the 3 star energy rating good for a fridge this size
A: HRFD634BW has a 3 star energy rating. For a 634L French door fridge, that is a usable balance of size and features, but a large plumbed model will still use more energy than a smaller fridge with a lower storage capacity.
