Things to consider
A portable riser is easier to carry and store, but it typically offers fewer height and angle adjustments than heavier desktop stands designed for permanent workstation use.
Ergonomic improvement score
8/10 - noticeably improves screen height and neck comfort compared with working directly on a desk.
Portability rating
9/10 - designed for easy transport and flexible use across multiple work locations.
Desk space optimisation
Good - helps free up usable desk area and supports a cleaner, less cluttered setup.
Stability vs category average
7/10 - stable for everyday typing and office use, though generally not as planted as heavier fixed desktop stands.
Multi-device compatibility
Works best with most standard laptops and can also suit some tablets or lightweight devices depending on size and use case.
Key benefits
- Portable foldable design: packs down easily for commuting, hot-desking or moving between rooms.
- Raised screen position: helps bring the laptop display closer to eye level for a more comfortable working posture.
- Open stand structure: allows better airflow around the laptop than placing it flat on a desk.
- Desk organisation support: creates usable space under or around the stand for a tidier workspace.
- Broad laptop support: suitable for many common laptop sizes used for study and office work.
- Quick setup: simple to position and start using without a complicated assembly process.
- Travel-friendly construction: easier to add to a backpack or laptop bag than a full-size desktop stand.
Q: Is the Alogic Metro Laptop Riser designed to fold away for travel or hot-desking?
A: Yes. This model is a portable riser and weighs 440g, so it is light enough to move between home, office and shared desks without adding much bulk. It is better suited to carrying in a work bag than leaving as a fixed desktop stand.
Q: Will the Alogic Metro Portable Laptop Riser work with brands other than Apple?
A: Yes. The listed compatibility includes Apple, Chromebook and Microsoft devices, so it is intended for more than just MacBooks. As with any open laptop riser, the best fit depends on your laptop sitting securely on the support points and silicone pads.
Q: Do the six angle settings make this riser suitable for all-day laptop use?
A: The six angle positions help lift the screen to a more comfortable viewing height, which can reduce neck strain at a desk. For longer work sessions, a separate keyboard and mouse are usually more comfortable because the laptop keys rise with the screen.
Q: How stable is the Alogic Metro riser when typing on the laptop itself?
A: It is designed with silicone pads to grip the laptop and reduce slipping while in use. That helps with everyday typing, but a riser like this is generally most comfortable with lighter keying, as heavier typing can feel less steady than a flat desk setup.
Q: Is the aluminium build mainly for looks, or does it affect durability as well?
A: It affects durability as well. The riser is made from aluminium alloy, which is commonly used for a firmer feel and better resistance to daily wear than basic plastic stands. It also keeps the overall weight to 440g, which suits portable use.
