    Great TV

It's definitely value for money. Picture quality and sound is quote good. Only negative would be on occasion there seems to be a shadow image appears which we get rid of by changing Picture modes.

So close and yet so far

We find the remote control too fiddly compared to old tv and WiFi drops out repeatedly and when that happens the set simply shuts down completely, so not impressed. For many years I would buy anything made by Sharp but this TV has changed my thinking completely.

    Poor performance

It is a very poor quality tv , most of the time apps are struck and hangs and takes a long time to navigate on anything that you operate with the remote.

    Jury is still out

Finding it an awkward product to navigate compared with the LG model it has replaced, certainly technically more advanced but navigation is lacking. The RC takes a lot of getting used to. On the technical side it has a much stronger antenna draw than the LG.

Things to consider

A good all-rounder for everyday viewing, but it is not the best choice if you want premium contrast, stronger motion handling or advanced gaming features found on higher-end TVs.

Living room suitability

Well suited to small-to-medium living rooms where a 50-inch screen gives an immersive but manageable viewing size.

Family viewing friendliness

8/10 - Easy smart features, a family-friendly screen size and solid all-round use make it a practical shared TV.

Smart tv feature score

8/10 - Android TV offers strong app availability and simple content access for everyday streaming.

Gaming suitability

6/10 - Fine for casual console play, but not aimed at gamers seeking premium refresh and response features.

Wall mount compatibility

Suitable for wall mounting with a compatible VESA wall bracket; confirm the exact mount pattern before purchase.

Key benefits

  • 50-inch screen size: Delivers a comfortable big-screen experience for movies, sport and shared viewing in medium-sized rooms.
  • Android TV platform: Gives you easy access to popular streaming apps and a familiar smart TV interface.
  • UHD picture support: Provides sharper detail than older Full HD TVs, making modern streaming content look cleaner on a larger screen.
  • App-based entertainment hub: Helps reduce the need for extra streaming devices by keeping major entertainment services in one place.
  • Simple everyday usability: Suits households that want straightforward TV watching, streaming and channel surfing without a steep learning curve.
  • Versatile room fit: The 50-inch size balances screen impact with easier placement in many Australian living rooms and apartments.
  • Good all-purpose viewing: Works well across streaming, broadcast TV and general family entertainment rather than specialising in one niche.
  • Accessible price positioning: A practical option for buyers wanting smart TV convenience and a larger screen without stepping into premium pricing.

Q: Is the Sharp 50" UHD Android TV a good choice if you mainly stream Netflix, YouTube and similar apps?

A: Yes. Because it uses the Android TV platform, it is designed for app-based viewing without needing a separate streaming box for most households. A stable home internet connection is still important, especially if you plan to stream in 4K.

Q: What difference does UHD make on a 50" Sharp TV compared with Full HD?

A: UHD gives a 50 inch screen more detail and a cleaner look than Full HD, especially with native 4K movies, sport and gaming. Standard HD broadcasts can still look good, but they will not appear as sharp as true 4K content.

Q: How much space should I allow for a 50" Sharp UHD Android TV?

A: A 50 inch 16:9 TV screen is typically about 111cm wide and 62cm high, with the full TV a little larger once bezels and the stand are included. Measure both the furniture width and viewing height, because cabinet designs vary between models.

Q: Is a 50" Sharp UHD Android TV better suited to a bedroom or a living room?

A: A 50 inch TV suits many bedrooms and smaller living rooms, with a typical viewing distance of about 2 to 3 metres for mixed content. If seating is much farther back, a larger screen usually feels more immersive for movies and sport.

Q: What internet speed is suitable for streaming on this Sharp 50" UHD Android TV?

A: For smooth HD streaming, around 5 to 10 Mbps is typically enough. For 4K streaming, about 15 to 25 Mbps per TV is a more realistic target, especially if other devices in the home are using the connection at the same time.
