Over all does the job, of releaving pain. But can't use for more than 7 or 8 minutes as it hurts.

Great massager
I’ve found this to be a really good device for targeted back therapy. It's high quality and delivers on its main purpose. However, keep in mind that it doesn't quite cover the neck or lower legs due to its size. It would easily be a 5-star product if it were slightly bigger to capture those areas, but as a back massager, it is excellent.

Very happy with this for lower and mid back massages. Have been using it on low backrest chair and really works great on lower and mid back.

It's on my back right now, soothing
Great product, the only thing would be if the rolling balls were softer.

At a glance
The Homedics Shiatsu Pro Plus Massage Cushion is a chair-mounted back massager designed for people who want convenient at-home relief for everyday back tension. It stands out for its mix of shiatsu, compression, percussion, heat and seat vibration, plus easy zone selection and portability. It suits most upright chairs well, but it is not as customisable or intensive as larger premium massage chairs.

Key benefits
- Dual kneading shiatsu massage: Travels up and down the back to help loosen everyday muscle tightness.
- Three massage zones: Lets you choose full, upper or lower back treatment to better match where tension builds up.
- Spot massage function: Targets a specific area when you want more focused relief.
- Compression and percussion styles: Adds variety to the massage feel for a more tailored session.
- Heat function: Adds soothing warmth that can make sessions feel more relaxing.
- Seat vibration intensity control: Helps soothe the lower back and thighs while seated.
- Integrated chair strap: Secures the cushion to most upright chairs for easier everyday setup.
- Foldable portable design: Easier to move between rooms or pack away when not in use.
Q: Will this massage cushion fit an office or dining chair?
A: Yes, it is designed for most upright chairs and uses an integrated back strap to stay in place. It works best on chairs with a supportive backrest, while very curved, reclined or overstuffed seats can affect how the massage track lines up.
Q: Can the Homedics SBM-380H-AU replace a full massage chair?
A: No. Homedics SBM-380H-AU is a portable back cushion for seated sessions, not a full-chair system. It focuses on the backrest and seat area, so it will not give the same whole-body coverage or built-in recline of a massage chair.
Q: Does the heat stay on without the massage running?
A: Yes, the heat function can be switched on separately from the massage programs. It adds warmth during a seated session, but it is a gentle heat feature rather than a high-heat pad, so the warmth may feel subtle to some users.
Q: Can you target one spot instead of the whole back?
A: Yes, the spot massage function keeps the rollers on one selected area instead of moving across the full back. That makes it better for a fixed upper, middle or lower back position when a travelling massage is not what you want.
Q: Is the seat base vibration only, or does it knead?
A: The seat section uses vibration, not shiatsu rollers. The kneading massage happens in the backrest, while the base adds a separate vibration setting for the lower seating area rather than a second rolling massage track.
Q: How firm does the shiatsu massage feel through the cushion?
A: The Homedics Shiatsu Pro Plus Massage Cushion uses kneading rollers, so the massage feel is firmer than a padded vibrating seat. If you prefer a lighter feel, use it on a supportive chair and keep normal clothing between your back and the rollers.
