Upgrade any TV to a smart TV with a Google Chromecast (Google TV)

A Chromecast is a small streaming device made by Google that plugs into your TV's HDMI port and turns any TV into a smart TV. You cast video, music and photos from your phone, tablet or laptop, or use the included remote and Google TV menu to open apps like Netflix, YouTube and Disney+ directly. The current model, the Google TV Streamer (4K), streams in 4K HDR with Dolby Atmos and needs a spare HDMI port plus WiFi (minimum 1.5 Mbps).

What can a Google Chromecast do?

  • Stream thousands of apps - watch shows, movies, sport and music from Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, Disney+, HBO Max and thousands more, straight on your TV.

  • Cast from your phone with one tap - send whatever's playing on your phone or tablet to the TV; works on both Android and iOS.

  • View photos on the big screen - cast photos and videos from apps like Google Photos to a big screen TV.

  • Play music through better speakers - stream Spotify, Pandora or YouTube Music through your TV, a Soundbar or a Hi-Fi Sound System.

  • Cast a browser tab - show any website, recipe, presentation or document on the TV from a Chrome tab.

  • Use your phone as a remote - play, pause, rewind and control volume without a separate remote.

What devices and apps does a Google Chromecast work with?

Chromecast works with almost any modern phone, tablet or computer, and with any TV that has a spare HDMI port:

  2. Connect the USB power cable using the included wall adapter or a USB port.

  3. Switch your TV's input to that HDMI port to show the setup screen.

  4. Download the Google Home app, select your WiFi network, enter the password and let the Chromecast connect.

  5. Link your streaming apps (Netflix, YouTube, etc.) to your Google account in the Google Home app.

  6. Open a compatible app, tap the Cast button and start streaming.

  7. Use your phone as a remote to play, pause and control volume.

Which Google Chromecast is best?

For most people, the Google TV Streamer (4K) is the best choice. It streams in 4K HDR with Dolby Atmos surround sound, includes 8GB of storage for apps and games, and comes with a remote and voice control. Its Google TV interface pulls Netflix, YouTube and Disney+ into one place, so everything is organised and easy to reach. Pair it with a Soundbar for immersive audio, or add a TV Wall Mount to finish your setup.

The current Google TV Streamer model supports 4K HDR. Older Chromecast models max out at HD (1080p).

Yes. Chromecast needs a WiFi connection of at least 1.5 Mbps to stream.
