    Good for bulk scanning

I have been using the scanner for digitising photos for our family going back 100 years. In doing more recent photos the scanner is good for quick scans of colour photos and the enhancement feature works well. The more difficult photos are the older photos in Black and White. Some photos I have not been able to scan well. Very small photos 6 x 6 cm or 6 x 8.5 cm do not feed through the scanner. Some B&W photos require a lot more attention to get a good scan. I have used my current Canon scanner to achieve a more tailored result as I can adjust all the settings to a finer detail, However this is much more time consuming. So overall I would recommend this product for fast bulk scanning or modern photos.

    Epson FastFoto Scanner

This machine is absolutely awesome. Just load in your photos and press scan. So fast and with automatic image colour correction, as well as scanning the back to capture written details, you don't have to do anything but just sort your scanned images into groups. Just fantastic.

    So Easy to Use.

This product is exactly what is says a simple, multi photo photo scanner. It is easy to install and brings up old, dark photo's so well - gives you the choice of keeping the original scan, the adjusted scan or both. Easy file naming system and works with very small old photo's and ones up to A4 size. This was exactly what I needed for my 100's of old photo's.

    Great product

Love that you can scan up to 30 prints in one go and the machine automatically improves them. It then gives you the choice to keep either or both copies. Only thing I am having a problem with is doing mulitple copies of really small, old photo's.

Recommended for anyone with a box of photos

Makes it so easy to scan batches of photos. Just pop them in the hopper, tag them with some information and a date. It creates a folder for the scan run and adds the info to the photo exif data. This makes them easy to find if you upload to Google photos or similar. Scan quality is great but I did have turn off the auto enhancement/scratch removal features as these did not work well. The unit feels strong and sturdy. I got mine for 399 on a good guys deal

At a glance

The Epson FastFoto FF-680W is a premium home scanner built for quickly digitising printed photos and everyday documents. It suits households, family archivists and home office users who want fast batch scanning, duplex capture and wireless setup. Its standout strength is photo-focused speed and media flexibility, but it is less ideal for buyers wanting a highly portable scanner or large flatbed-style handling.

Things to consider

This model is optimised for fast feeder-based scanning, so users needing a flatbed for fragile originals, bound items or oversized media may be better served by a specialist scanner.

Document vs photo suitability

Excellent for both, with a stronger emphasis on batch photo scanning and family archive workflows.

Home office friendliness

9/10 - compact footprint, wireless connectivity and fast feeder-based scanning suit home desks well.

Portability rating

4/10 - compact for a desktop scanner, but designed to stay set up rather than travel frequently.

Ease of use score

8/10 - automatic feeding, single-pass duplex scanning and built-in enhancement features make routine scanning straightforward.

Speed vs category average

9/10 - photo scanning up to 80 ppm is notably fast for a home-focused scanner.

Key benefits

  • High-Speed Photo Scanning: Scans up to 80 photos per minute at 300 dpi colour, making large family photo collections much quicker to digitise.
  • Single-Pass Duplex Scanning: Captures both sides in one pass, which is useful for photos with handwritten notes and double-sided documents.
  • 36-Photo Automatic Feeder: Lets you load batches of standard photo prints for less manual handling during scanning sessions.
  • Document Feeder Capacity: Holds up to 100 sheets of 80 g/m2 paper, helping with larger paperwork digitising jobs at home or in a small office.
  • Flexible Photo Size Support: Handles common print sizes from 8.9 x 12.7 cm up to 20.3 x 25.4 cm, plus panoramas and long prints for varied photo collections.
  • Wireless and USB Connectivity: Supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and USB for easier placement on a desk and convenient connection to different devices.
  • Image Enhancement Tools: Includes auto enhancement, colour restoration, red-eye reduction, de-skew, crop and rotate to improve scans with less manual editing.
  • Detailed Archiving Output: Offers optical scanning at 600 dpi with adjustable output resolution from 50 to 1200 dpi for preserving photos and documents with good detail.

Q: Is the Epson FastFoto FF-680W wireless, or does it need to stay connected to a computer?

A: Yes, the FF-680W supports Wi-Fi, so it can be placed more flexibly than a scanner that must stay tethered by cable. It still needs Epson software on a compatible computer for scanning tasks, so wireless does not mean computer-free operation.

Q: Can the Epson FastFoto FF-680W scan old photo prints in batches?

A: Yes, this model is built for batch photo scanning. The feeder holds up to 36 photos in 3.5 x 5, 4 x 6 or 5 x 7 sizes, while larger 5 x 9, 8 x 10 and panorama prints are limited to 10, and extra-long photos are scanned one at a time.

Q: Does the Epson FastFoto FF-680W scan both sides of a photo or document automatically?

A: Yes, it is a 1 pass duplex scanner, so it captures both sides in a single feed. That is useful for photos with handwriting on the back and for two-sided documents, without needing to turn pages over and rescan them manually.

Q: Can the Epson FastFoto FF-680W scan slides, negatives or film?

A: No, the FF-680W is designed for printed photos and paper documents fed through its document feeder. It supports photo prints from wallet size to 8.5 inches wide, plus panoramas and long media, but it is not a dedicated film or slide scanner.

Q: What photo and document sizes can the Epson FastFoto FF-680W handle?

A: It handles paper from 2 x 2 inches up to 8.5 x 240 inches, with long lengths from 215 to 240 inches limited to 200 dpi maximum. For photos, it supports common print sizes such as 3 x 5, 4 x 6, 5 x 7, 8 x 10, instant and panorama formats.

Q: Is the Epson FastFoto FF-680W better suited to photos, documents, or both?

A: It suits both, but its standout strength is high-volume photo digitising with photo-specific corrections like colour restoration, red-eye reduction, crop and de-skew. It also scans documents quickly at 45 ppm and 90 ipm at 300 dpi colour.
