Q: Is the Canon CLI-681XXL Black the same as the PGI-680XL black cartridge?
A: No. The CLI-681XXL Black is a different cartridge type to the PGI-680XL Black, even though many compatible PIXMA printers use both series together. Check the code on the old cartridge, because PGI and CLI cartridges are not interchangeable.
Q: What does XXL mean on the Canon CLI-681XXL Black cartridge?
A: XXL means extra high yield, so this cartridge is designed to last longer than standard or XL versions in the same Canon 681 range. Actual output depends on what you print, with photo-heavy and colour-rich pages using ink faster than light document printing.
Q: Is the CLI-681XXL Black mainly for documents or for photo printing?
A: It is mainly part of Canon's CLI photo and colour ink system rather than the separate PGI pigment black used for crisp plain-paper text in many PIXMA models. If your printer takes both, this cartridge complements the PGI black rather than replacing it.
Q: Can I use this cartridge in a printer that needs both PGI-680 and CLI-681 inks?
A: Yes. Many compatible Canon PIXMA models use a PGI-680 black cartridge alongside CLI-681 colour and photo cartridges, so this CLI-681XXL Black is only one part of the full ink set. It will not replace the separate PGI cartridge if your printer requires both.
Q: Is this a genuine Canon cartridge or a third-party replacement?
A: This is a genuine Canon OEM cartridge, not a third-party compatible version. That matters if you want the cartridge recognition, ink monitoring and print performance Canon designed for supported PIXMA models in the CLI-681 series.
