Changed my runs!
I always used to run sans earphones as I like to be fully aware of my surroundings. These are the best of both worlds as they sit outside your ears so external noises can still be heard clearly. Obviously this means that if you’re running in a high noise area (ie a busy road) your audio will be partially drowned out but that’s not a design flaw, it’s just how token ear headphones work. Sound quality is never going to be as good as in-ear design, but is leagues above other options I tried. They stay securely in place during my runs and battery life is decent. They are pricey though, so it could be worth looking at the non Pro version if these are outside of your budget.

good quality but expensive
This has no bone conduction, the sound quality is fine. But it is expensive for what you get. There are many other lesser known brands with the same sound quality, or get a cheaper Shokz model (with bone conduction but lesser sound quality).

Not good as old Shokz
Headphones are fine but you need to re-connect them all the time. It does not recognize the phone/s and connect them as soon as you turn the headphones on. This feature was there with the old Shokz. Also, you cant connect 2 x phones at the same time like the which was a feature of the old Shokz

At a glance
The Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 is an open-ear sports headphone built for runners, cyclists and outdoor exercisers who want music without blocking surrounding sound. Its strengths are long 12-hour battery life, a light 29 g design, clear call mics and quick charging. The main limitation is that the open-ear design provides little noise isolation compared with in-ear earbuds.

Things to consider
Because the ear canal stays open, these headphones do not block outside noise like sealed in-ear earbuds, so they are less suited to loud environments where isolation is important.
Commuter suitability score
7/10 - Excellent awareness for streets and stations, but limited noise isolation makes it less ideal on very loud public transport.
Workout fit
Secure open-ear sports fit suited to running, cycling and active training.
Noise isolation effectiveness
2/10 - Open-ear design intentionally leaves the ear canal open, so outside noise remains clearly audible.
All-day comfort rating
9/10 - The 29 g lightweight frame and around-ear design make it comfortable for long wear, including with glasses and helmets.
Multi-device switching ease
5/10 - Bluetooth 5.3 supports quick pairing, but multi-device switching is not specified in the provided details.
Key benefits
- Open-ear design: Keeps your ear canal clear so you can stay aware of traffic, voices and other surroundings during training.
- 12-hour battery life: Delivers up to 12 hours of music and calls from a single charge for long training sessions.
- Fast charge: A 5-minute charge provides up to 2.5 hours of playback when you need a quick top-up before heading out.
- Lightweight 29 g build: Feels easy to wear for extended sessions without the bulk of heavier sports headphones.
- Bluetooth 5.3: Supports quick, modern wireless pairing with compatible phones and watches.
- IP55 rating: Resists sweat and water splashes for workouts in changing weather conditions.
- Dual noise-cancelling microphones: Helps make voice calls sound clearer in active, outdoor use.
- Sports-ready frame: Sits comfortably around the ears and works well with glasses, hats and most bike helmets.
Q: Are the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 better for running outdoors than in-ear earbuds?
A: Yes. Their open-ear design leaves the ear canal clear, so traffic, bikes and voices are easier to hear while listening. The trade-off is less noise isolation than sealed earbuds, so they suit outdoor training more than loud public transport.
Q: Do the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 leak sound to people nearby?
A: Yes, some sound leakage is normal because the ears stay open rather than sealed. At moderate volume it is usually limited, but in a quiet office or library nearby people may hear faint audio, especially if volume is turned up.
Q: Can the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 be worn with glasses, hats or a bike helmet?
A: Yes. The wraparound open-ear frame is designed to sit around the ears rather than inside them, so it usually works well with glasses and many helmets. Fit can still vary with thick spectacle arms or low rear helmet adjustment dials.
Q: Will the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 give the same bass as sealed earbuds?
A: No. Open-ear headphones let in outside sound, so they do not create the same deep, isolated bass effect as in-ear models with a tight seal. OpenRun Pro 2 is tuned for fuller low-end than older open-ear designs, but not nightclub-style punch.
Q: Are the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 suitable for calls while walking or exercising?
A: Yes. They are designed for voice calls as well as music, and the open-ear fit means the caller can still hear their own voice naturally. Wind and heavy traffic can still affect call clarity outdoors, especially at faster cycling speeds.
