An Amazing Foldable That Gets Almost Everything Right
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is an impressive piece of technology and, in my opinion, one of the best foldable phones available. The form factor is fantastic—you get a large, beautiful screen when you need it, while still having a relatively compact phone when folded. It’s also surprisingly lightweight for a foldable of this size. Both displays are excellent, and the center crease is now almost invisible during normal use. Samsung has clearly done a great job refining the overall design and making the foldable experience feel much more natural. There are a few areas where I think it could be better. The lack of S Pen support is disappointing, especially considering the large inner display. The cameras are good, but they don't quite match the camera experience you'd get from Samsung's best conventional flagship phones. Battery life is also decent rather than exceptional, particularly considering how much screen real estate this phone offers. Maybe, the upgrade in battery technology in the coming few years will iron out this flaw. Despite these drawbacks, the combination of portability, screen size, design and overall usability makes the Fold8 Ultra a fantastic phone. If you value the foldable form factor, the advantages easily outweigh the compromises.
