At a glance
The Epson 254 XL DURABrite Ultra Black Ink is a high-yield black cartridge built for compatible WorkForce printers and frequent document printing. It suits home offices and small businesses needing sharp text, quick-drying prints and fewer cartridge changes with its 2200-page yield. Its main limitation is that it is black-only, so it is not suitable for colour printing needs.

Printer compatibility assessment
Best for selected Epson WorkForce printers; a strong fit for users already running compatible WF-series office and home office models.
Page yield value score
9/10 - Up to 2200 pages is a strong yield for black document printing and suits frequent-use environments well.
Ease of replacement rating
9/10 - Standard cartridge replacement for compatible Epson WorkForce printers is straightforward and familiar for most users.
Business vs home suitability
Well suited to both business and home use, with strongest value for document-heavy home offices and small business printing.
Key benefits
- 2200-page yield: Supports extended printing with up to 2200 pages before replacement, helping reduce interruptions.
- Pigment black ink: Produces sharp, professional-looking text suited to business documents and everyday paperwork.
- Quick-drying formula: Documents can be handled sooner after printing with less risk of fresh ink transfer.
- Water-resistant prints: Helps protect printed text from accidental moisture exposure.
- Fade-resistant output: Printed documents stay clearer for longer during storage and regular use.
- Smudge-resistant performance: Helps keep printed pages cleaner when handled straight after printing.
- XL cartridge format: Needs fewer changes than lower-yield options, making it better for frequent printing.
- Broad WorkForce compatibility: Works with selected Epson WorkForce models including WF-3620, WF-3640, WF-7610, WF-7620, WF-7710, WF-7720 and WF-7725.
Q: Which Epson printers does this 254 XL black cartridge fit
A: It fits listed Epson WorkForce printers including WF-3620, WF-3640, WF-7610, WF-7620, WF-7710, WF-7720 and WF-7725. It is not a universal Epson cartridge, so do not buy it for other printer ranges or unlisted models.
Q: Can I use this ink in Epson printers outside WorkForce models
A: No. This cartridge is documented for selected Epson WorkForce printers, not for every Epson model. Even if another printer looks similar, match the exact cartridge code and listed printer compatibility before buying.
Q: Can this cartridge print colour pages as well as black
A: No. This cartridge contains black ink only, so it is for black text and monochrome documents rather than colour output. If your printer is used for colour work, it will still need the matching colour cartridges it is designed to use.
Q: Will this cartridge last for frequent home or office printing
A: Yes. Epson 254 XL DURABrite Ultra Black Ink has a 2200 page yield, so it suits regular document printing with fewer cartridge changes. It makes more sense for frequent black printing than for light, occasional use.
Q: Is this ink better for text documents than photo printing
A: Yes. Epson 254 XL DURABrite Ultra Black Ink is aimed at sharp black text on plain or specialty paper, which suits letters, forms and reports. It is not the right choice if your main priority is producing full-colour photos or graphics.
Q: Does DURABrite Ultra black ink smudge easily after printing
A: No. Epson 254 XL DURABrite Ultra Black Ink dries quickly and is designed to resist smudging, water and fading, which suits paperwork handled soon after printing. Results can still vary with the paper type and how heavily the page is covered.
