Awesome
The best feature is arguably its QD-Mini LED display technology. It combines Quantum Dot (QLED) colour with Mini LED local dimming, delivering deeper blacks, higher brightness, better contrast, and more vibrant colours than traditional LED TVs.

At a glance
This 85 inch TCL C6L is a big-screen 4K Google TV suited to families, movie lovers and gamers wanting an immersive lounge-room setup. Its key strengths are QD Mini LED picture quality, 144Hz motion handling, Dolby Vision and easy casting from Android and Apple devices. A fair limitation is that its 700 nit peak brightness is solid, but not as punchy as higher-end premium Mini LED models.

Things to consider
Its picture performance is strong for the category, but buyers chasing the brightest HDR highlights or more premium black-level control may prefer a higher-end Mini LED or OLED model.
Home theatre suitability score
8.5/10 - Large 85 inch screen, QD Mini LED contrast control and Dolby Vision make it well suited to immersive movie watching.
Large room viewing fit
9/10 - The 85 inch panel is an excellent fit for large lounges, open-plan spaces and dedicated media rooms.
Gaming performance rating
8.5/10 - 144Hz support and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro give it strong gaming credentials for fast-paced play.
Smart home integration compatibility
Google TV platform with built-in Chromecast, Apple AirPlay and broad app support for mixed-device households.
Wall mounting ease
7/10 - Wall mounting can create a clean theatre look, but the 85 inch size typically makes installation a two-person job.
Key benefits
- 85 inch screen: Delivers a cinema-like viewing experience that suits large rooms and makes movies, sport and games feel more immersive.
- QD Mini LED panel: Improves contrast and colour intensity for a more refined picture than basic large-screen LED TVs.
- 144Hz refresh rate: Helps fast action look smoother for gaming and live sport with less visible motion blur.
- AMD FreeSync Premium Pro: Reduces screen tearing and supports a more responsive gaming experience on compatible consoles and PCs.
- Dolby Vision and HDR10+: Enhances highlight detail and scene depth across supported movies, shows and streaming content.
- Full array local dimming: Helps maintain better shadow detail and contrast control, especially in darker scenes.
- Google TV with Chromecast and Apple AirPlay: Makes it easy to access streaming apps and share content from both Android and Apple devices.
- 6 star energy rating: Offers strong energy performance for a TV of this size, with estimated annual energy consumption of 555 kWh.
Q: Is this 85 inch TCL TV bright enough for daytime viewing?
A: Yes. TCL 85C6L reaches 700 nits peak brightness and uses full array local dimming, so it handles everyday daytime viewing well in bright rooms. Direct sunlight on the screen can still flatten darker scenes, so light control helps for movies.
Q: Will the 144Hz screen make console gaming look smoother?
A: Yes. TCL 85C6L supports a 144Hz refresh rate, VRR and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, helping keep fast motion smoother and reduce tearing in compatible games. Actual results depend on the console and game, so not every title reaches the panel's full refresh.
Q: Do you need a soundbar with the TCL 85C6L?
A: No, not for most loungeroom setups. TCL 85C6L has an Onkyo audio system with Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual X, so everyday TV, sport and streaming are covered, but a separate sound system still adds more bass and scale for movie nights.
Q: What does Google TV with Gemini actually add here?
A: Google TV puts streaming apps, watchlists and recommendations into one interface, while Gemini adds more natural voice help for finding content and handling everyday queries.
Q: How much power does this 85 inch TV use?
A: TCL 85C6L has a 6 star energy rating and estimated annual energy consumption of 555kWh. For a TV this size, a higher star rating generally means lower running costs than other large-screen TVs with a lower rating, but long daily use still matters.
Q: Can both iPhone and Android users cast to this TV?
A: Yes. TCL 85C6L has Chromecast built in for many Android and Chrome-based devices, and Apple AirPlay for compatible Apple devices. It is designed for wireless sharing, but app support for casting can vary between services and devices.
