    Perfect for the space

Although a little hesitant based on some pretty scathing reviews about the Sonos app, I purchased a pair of Sonos Era 100 SL speakers for a 40sqm studio space. Luckily, I haven't faced any of the issues with the app, and the pair work perfectly together. The speakers produce a rich, full sound that most people will enjoy. Whilst they sound great, they're a little underpowered for the space in my opinion, and at some point, I'll likely upgrade to the Era 300 so I don't have to run them at such high volume.

    My third sonos!

This is my third sonos speaker. I bought this to stereo pair with Era 100 and it improved the sound stage dramatically. This works seamlessly with my other sonos too! Its a bit expensive but worth the price

It suits living spaces, bedrooms and existing Sonos households especially well. Things to consider

It is designed more for fixed in-home use than grab-and-go listening, and buyers wanting built-in voice assistant features may prefer other premium smart speaker options.

Multi-room flexibility

9/10 - Strong fit for whole-home audio and easy to place in different rooms as part of a Sonos system.

Portability rating

3/10 - Best suited to stationary indoor use rather than regular travel or outdoor carry-around listening.

Music quality score

8/10 - Delivers rich stereo sound and satisfying bass for its compact size.

Smart home compatibility

6/10 - Integrates well within the Sonos ecosystem, but this SL version does not include built-in voice control.

Outdoor suitability

3/10 - Better for indoor rooms than exposed outdoor areas or frequent outdoor use.

Key benefits

  • Rich Stereo Sound: Fills everyday rooms with a wider, more immersive sound than basic single-speaker setups.
  • Deep Bass: Adds fuller low-end presence for music that sounds weightier and more engaging.
  • No Built-In Voice Control: Ideal for buyers who prefer a simpler speaker experience without always-on voice assistant features.
  • Multi-Room Streaming: Makes it easy to add room-to-room audio as part of a wider Sonos setup.
  • Compact Design: Fits neatly on shelves, side tables and benches without dominating the room.
  • Streaming Service Access: Lets you play content from your favourite music services for convenient everyday listening.
  • Easy Device Connectivity: Supports straightforward connection with compatible devices you already use at home.
  • Expandable System Start: Works well as either a first Sonos speaker or a simple way to grow an existing setup.

Q: What is the difference between the Sonos Era 100 SL and the standard Era 100?

A: The main difference is built-in voice control. Era 100 SL removes the microphones and voice assistant features, but keeps the same compact Era 100 design, so it suits buyers who want Sonos sound and streaming without always-on mics.

Q: Does the Sonos Era 100 SL support Bluetooth?

A: Yes. Era 100 SL supports Bluetooth as well as Sonos streaming, so it can play audio directly from a phone, tablet or laptop without relying only on Wi-Fi. That is a key difference from older Sonos One SL models, which did not include Bluetooth.

Q: Can the Sonos Era 100 SL connect to a turntable or computer by cable?

A: Yes, but it does not have a standard 3.5 mm socket built into the speaker. Era 100 SL uses Sonos USB-C line-in, so a compatible line-in adaptor is needed for sources such as a turntable with phono stage, CD player or computer audio output.

Q: Can the Sonos Era 100 SL be stereo paired with another Sonos speaker?

A: Yes. Era 100 SL can be used as a stereo pair, including with an Era 100, to create left and right channels with a wider soundstage. For bigger open-plan rooms, two speakers usually sound fuller and need less volume than a single unit.

Q: Will the Sonos Era 100 SL work with older Sonos speakers?

A: Usually yes, if the older speaker still runs on the current Sonos platform. Era 100 SL is made to join a Sonos multi-room system, but advanced uses such as stereo pairing or surround duties need compatible models rather than just any older Sonos speaker.

Q: Is the Sonos Era 100 SL powerful enough for a large room?

A: Era 100 SL is best suited to small and medium rooms such as bedrooms, studies and kitchens. In a larger open area of about 35 to 40 square metres, one speaker may need to run quite high, so a stereo pair or a larger Sonos model can make more sense.
