Not bad
The cooling was very effective. We had quite a big room and it cooled it very well however after a month all of the lights/display stopped working. Other than that it was good for what we need

At a glance
The Rinnai C3.5kW Cooling Only Portable Air Conditioner is a practical option for cooling small to medium rooms up to 24m2, especially in rentals or spaces where fixed installation is not possible. Its strengths are portability, easy touch and remote controls, and useful daily features like a timer and sleep mode. The main limitation is that it is cooling-only, so it does not provide year-round heating.

Things to consider
This model is cooling-only, so buyers wanting one unit for both summer cooling and winter heating may prefer a reverse-cycle portable air conditioner.
Room size suitability
Best for small to medium rooms up to 24m2
Portability rating
8/10 - compact portable format with included ventilation kit makes it suitable for moving between rooms with a compatible window.
Noise level vs category average
5/10 - rated at 64dBA, which is typical for a portable air conditioner but louder than quieter premium alternatives.
Energy efficiency score
6/10 - suitable 3.5kW cooling output for up to 24m2, but no verified star rating was provided.
Ease of installation
8/10 - no permanent installation required and the ventilation kit is included, but it still needs access to a suitable window for venting.
Key benefits
- 3.5kW Cooling Capacity: Delivers strong cooling performance for rooms up to 24m2.
- Portable Design: Lets you move the unit between suitable rooms instead of relying on one fixed installation point.
- Touch Controls: Makes day-to-day operation simple and easy to adjust.
- Remote Control: Allows convenient temperature and mode changes from across the room.
- Timer Function: Helps schedule cooling around your routine and avoid running longer than needed.
- Sleep Program: Supports more comfortable overnight use with a sleep-focused operating mode.
- Washable Filter: Reduces ongoing maintenance costs compared with disposable filters.
- Water Alarm: Alerts you when the tank is full so maintenance is easier to manage.
Q: What size room is the Rinnai 3.5kW Cooling Only Portable Air Conditioner best suited to?
A: A 3.5kW portable air conditioner is generally best for a small to medium room, roughly around 20 to 30 square metres in typical conditions. Very sunny rooms, poor insulation or high ceilings can reduce how effectively it cools.
Q: Does the Rinnai 3.5kW portable air conditioner need to be vented through a window?
A: Yes. Like other portable air conditioners, this model needs its exhaust hose vented out of a window or similar opening so hot air is removed from the room. It will not cool properly if the exhaust air is allowed to flow back indoors.
Q: Can the Rinnai RPC35MC be used for heating as well as cooling?
A: No. This is a cooling only portable air conditioner, so it is designed to lower room temperature in warmer weather but does not provide a reverse-cycle heating mode. If winter heating matters, a heating and cooling model will be the better fit.
Q: Is the Rinnai 3.5kW portable air conditioner a good option for renters or rooms where a split system cannot be installed?
A: Yes. A portable unit like this suits renters, temporary setups or rooms where fixed air conditioning is not practical, because it does not require permanent wall mounting.
Q: Can this Rinnai portable air conditioner be moved between rooms?
A: Yes, but it is most practical when each room has a suitable window or opening for the exhaust hose. Moving it is simpler than installing a split system, although setup still needs enough space near the window each time you relocate it.
