Reverse osmosis filtration handles up to 2000L before replacement, with alkaline mineralisation added back after filtration. Preset temperatures at ambient, 45, 85, or 95 degrees C and volume options of 150, 200, 300, or 500mL tailor pours for different drinks. Good bye plastics

We usually purchase 10L spring water from supermarkets but summer somehow heats the plastic container up so the water tastes like plastic. This water filter removes many harmful substances including plastics. Water feels light and refreshing. It heats up to 95°C within seconds, making tea or coffee in an instant. It doesn't take much space as well as long as you have a power point

At a glance

This benchtop RO water station is ideal for households and small offices that want fast, filtered hot water without installation. Its strengths are near-instant heating, strong contaminant reduction, useful preset temperatures and volumes, and a compact footprint. The main limitation is that it is a countertop station with a 4 L tank, so frequent users may need to refill it more often than plumbed systems.

What it’s great for

  • Instant hot drinks
  • Filtered everyday water
  • Tea and coffee preparation
  • Shared kitchen use
  • Benchtop water purification

Where it works best

  • Home kitchen
  • Office kitchenette
  • Apartment benchtop
  • Break room
  • Small shared workspace

Who it’s for

  • Tea drinkers
  • Coffee drinkers
  • Families
  • Office staff
  • Renters
  • Users wanting no-plumbing setup

Things to consider

It is more convenient than a kettle-and-filter setup, but heavy users may prefer a plumbed system with a larger continuous supply and less need to refill the 4 L tank.

Travel suitability

Low - best suited to fixed benchtop use at home or in an office rather than travel

Health & safety score

9/10 - reverse osmosis filtration reduces PFAS and 110+ contaminants, with a safety lock and water monitoring features for everyday use

Eco-friendliness rating

7/10 - long 2000 L filter life can reduce replacement frequency, though RO systems also produce rejected water during filtration

Ease of cleaning

8/10 - no plumbing simplifies upkeep, and filter reminders plus rejected water monitoring help with maintenance, but the tank and drip areas still need regular cleaning

Key benefits

  • Instant hot water: Delivers filtered hot water in about 3 seconds, reducing wait time for tea, coffee, and other hot drinks.
  • Reverse osmosis filtration: Helps reduce PFAS, chlorine, and 110+ contaminants for cleaner-tasting water.
  • 4 L tank: Holds enough water for multiple drinks between refills, making it practical for shared daily use.
  • Preset temperatures: Ambient, 45°C, 85°C, and 95°C settings make it easier to choose a suitable temperature for different drinks.
  • Preset volume options: 150 mL, 200 mL, 300 mL, and 500 mL pours help reduce guesswork and suit different cup sizes.
  • No-plumbing design: Works as a plug-in benchtop station, which simplifies setup for renters, offices, and kitchens without installation work.
  • Long filter life: The filter handles up to 2000 L before replacement, helping reduce maintenance frequency with a clear usage target.
  • Safety lock and touch controls: Makes everyday operation simple while adding extra protection in shared spaces and around children.

Q: Does the Philips ADD6901HBK01/79 actually boil water?

A: No. Philips ADD6901HBK01/79 tops out at 95 degrees C, so it suits tea, coffee and instant drinks rather than a true rolling boil. If a recipe or sterilising task needs boiling water, this model is not designed for that use.

Q: How often will the filter need replacing on this Philips water station?

A: Filter life is rated for 2000L, and the station gives a ClearSmart reminder when a change is due. In practice, replacement timing depends on how much water you dispense each day, so heavier shared use will reach that limit sooner.

Q: What should I know about the rejected water tank on this model?

A: Reverse osmosis creates a separate rejected water stream during filtration, and this model has sensors to monitor that rinse tank. You will need to empty it when prompted, which is a normal trade-off of benchtop RO systems.

Q: How is Aquaporin Inside on the ADD6901HBK01/79 different from a standard jug filter?

A: Philips ADD6901HBK01/79 uses reverse osmosis with an Aquaporin membrane, not basic carbon-only jug filtration. It filters down to 0.0001 micron and adds alkaline minerals back afterwards, but that deeper filtration also creates rejected water.

Q: How much bench space and clearance should I allow for this water station?

A: It suits most kitchen or office benchtops, with a 20cm by 30.2cm footprint and a height of 40.4cm. Leave extra room above the unit so the tank can be lifted out for refilling, because the compact size still needs top access.
