Great fridge and excellent value
Great fridge! Plenty of space, easy to organise, quiet and looks great. The plumbed iced and water feature is the best part especially coming into summer! Really happy with the quality and value for money. Would definitely recommend.

Great fridge for smaller spaces
Really good solid fridge freezer and really good features. It was bought as a replacement for our older fridge and we really like the double doors for the freezer, make it way easier to get things and really generous draws with plenty of capacity.

At a glance
This 506L LG French door refrigerator is a strong fit for families who want flexible fridge and freezer storage, plumbed ice and water, and smart control in a narrower footprint. Key strengths are its slim 835mm width, matte black finish and convenient dispenser features. The main limitation is that its total capacity is smaller than wider premium French door models.
What it’s great for
- Family food storage
- Narrow kitchen layouts
- Everyday fresh food organisation
- Entertaining with ice and chilled water
- Connected home appliance control
Where it works best
- Family kitchens
- Apartments with larger kitchen cavities
- Townhouses
- Renovation projects with 850mm fridge cavities
- Modern open-plan homes
Who it’s for
- Families
- Couples upgrading kitchen appliances
- Home entertainers
- Smart home users
- Households with limited fridge width
Things to consider
Its slim format is ideal for tighter kitchen spaces, but households wanting maximum storage may prefer a wider French door model with more usable capacity.
Family suitability score
8/10 - good total capacity, strong freezer volume and family-friendly ice and water access in a space-saving design
Entertaining suitability
8/10 - plumbed ice and chilled water are convenient for guests, though larger entertainers may want more overall capacity
Fresh food storage performance
7/10 - 286L fridge space suits regular family use, but it offers less fresh food room than some wider French door alternatives
Energy efficiency vs category
8/10 - the 4.5 star energy rating is a strong result for a French door fridge in this size and feature class
Kitchen space fit
Excellent for narrower kitchen cavities; the 835mm width is well suited to an 850mm fridge space.
Key benefits
- 506L Capacity: Provides substantial storage for a family household, with dedicated space for both everyday fresh food and frozen items.
- 835mm Slim Width: Fits kitchens with tighter fridge cavities, making French door storage practical where wider models may not fit.
- Plumbed Ice and Water Dispenser: Delivers chilled water and ice on demand without needing manual water refills.
- UVnano Dispenser Care: Uses UV LED light to help maintain hygiene at the water dispenser outlet.
- ThinQ App Connectivity: Lets you monitor and manage the fridge remotely for added day-to-day convenience.
- Smart Inverter Compressor: Supports reliable cooling performance for everyday household use.
- Matte Black Finish: Helps reduce the visibility of fingerprints and everyday marks on the exterior.
- 4.5 Star Energy Rating: Offers stronger energy performance than many larger French door fridges, helping balance capacity with running efficiency.
Q: Does the ice and water dispenser need a plumbing connection?
A: Yes. The dispenser is plumbed, so this fridge needs a nearby water connection for chilled water and ice. That is more convenient than a refill tank, but the fridge position and water point need to be discussed with your plumber.
Q: Will this fridge fit an 850mm kitchen cavity?
A: Yes, in many kitchens. LG GF-L500MBL is 835mm wide and is designed to suit an 850mm cavity, but its 1790mm height and 735mm depth still need to work with your space, including room for the doors to open comfortably.
Q: How is the 506L capacity split between fridge and freezer?
A: LG GF-L500MBL gives 286L to the fridge and 209L to the freezer, so the fresh food section is not oversized. That suits everyday family groceries well, but buyers who shop in bulk may want more fridge room than this layout provides.
Q: Is the freezer space large for a slim French door fridge?
A: Yes. The freezer section offers 209L, which is generous for a model built to fit narrower kitchen spaces. It should suit households that keep plenty of frozen meals or bulk items, but the slimmer cabinet limits total storage compared with wider formats.
Q: Does the matte black finish show fingerprints easily?
A: No, not as readily as many glossy finishes. LG uses a matte black exterior designed to resist fingerprints and everyday marks, so it is easier to keep looking tidy, though it will still need regular wiping in busy kitchens.
Q: What can ThinQ app control on this fridge?
A: LG GF-L500MBL supports ThinQ app connectivity for remote monitoring and control from a compatible device. That adds convenience if you want to check or adjust settings away from the kitchen, but it does not increase the fridge's physical storage space.
Q: Is the 4.5 star energy rating strong for this size?
A: Yes. LG GF-L500MBL has a 4.5 star energy rating, which is a strong result for a French door fridge of this size. A higher star rating generally means lower running costs than other similar-capacity French door fridges with a lower rating.
