Must have product
It is a necessary product to clean your coffee machine. It worked well and removed all the stains and calcium build up. The only downside is the price, which is a bit expensive compared to similar products from other manufacturers.

At a glance
The Breville ECO Liquid Descaler 1 Litre is a liquid cleaning solution for removing hard water scale from coffee machines and compatible appliances. It suits households with frequent coffee use or multiple machines, thanks to flexible 100 mL dosing and several uses per bottle. Key strengths are its biodegradable, odourless formula and simple liquid application. Limitation: it is single-use per cycle and not as convenient as pre-measured tablets.

- Regular coffee machine maintenance
- Flexible dose cleaning
- Appliance scale removal
Where it works best
- Home kitchens

Who it’s for

- Users wanting flexible liquid dosing
Things to consider
This liquid format offers flexible dosing, but it is less convenient than pre-portioned descaling tablets or sachets and each cleaning cycle requires measuring and discarding the used solution.
Machine compatibility
Coffee machines and compatible appliances that specify liquid descaler
Barista suitability
7/10 - well suited to home users maintaining espresso equipment, though it is more of a maintenance essential than a performance upgrade.
Ease of use
8/10 - straightforward liquid dosing at 100 mL per use, but it does require manual measuring.
Cleaning convenience
8/10 - simple to use for regular descaling and supports multiple cycles per bottle, though each dose is single-use and must be discarded after cleaning.
Key benefits
- 1 l bottle: Provides enough descaler for multiple cleaning cycles, making it practical for ongoing maintenance.
- 100 mL DOSING: Lets you measure the amount needed for different machine sizes and appliance requirements.
- Liquid format: Suits appliances that specify liquid descaler rather than tablets or powder.
- Hard water scale removal: Helps clean internal build-up that can affect coffee machine maintenance routines.
- Odourless formula: Makes the descaling process more pleasant in kitchen environments.
- Biodegradable formula: Offers a lower-impact cleaning option for users who prefer more environmentally conscious consumables.
- Phosphate-free formula: Supports appliance cleaning with a formula designed without added phosphates.
- Gmo-free formula: Appeals to buyers looking for a cleaning solution made without GMO ingredients.
Q: Is this descaler only for Breville coffee machines?
A: No. Breville ECO Liquid Descaler is suitable for coffee machines and other compatible appliances that require a liquid descaler. It is not a universal cleaner for every appliance type, so the product instructions should match your machine's cleaning method.
Q: Can used descaling solution be saved and used again later?
A: No. Breville ECO Liquid Descaler is single-use once it has run through a cleaning cycle, so the used solution should be discarded after descaling. The fresh liquid in the bottle can still be measured out for later cycles as needed.
Q: Does this suit machines that need tablets or powder descaler?
A: No. This product is a liquid descaler, so it best suits appliances that specify liquid cleaner in their care instructions. If your machine calls for tablets or powder, this is not the most direct match for that cleaning routine.
Q: Will this leave a strong smell after descaling my machine?
A: No. Breville ECO Liquid Descaler has an odourless formula, so it is less likely to leave a strong chemical smell in the kitchen during cleaning. The machine still needs a thorough rinse cycle afterwards before making coffee or using the appliance again.
Q: How much liquid do you use for each cleaning cycle?
A: Breville ECO Liquid Descaler is measured at 100 mL per dose. That makes it easier to adjust the amount for different machine sizes, but each prepared dose is still for one descaling cycle only and should not be reused afterwards.
Q: Why buy the 1 litre bottle for regular descaling?
A: The 1 litre bottle suits homes that descale regularly or run more than one compatible appliance. It gives flexible dosing from the same bottle, rather than a fixed single-serve format, but it does mean measuring each dose instead of using a pre-portioned tablet.
