At a glance
Apple AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case are premium true wireless earbuds built for iPhone users who want easy daily listening, clearer calls and a more adaptive noise-control experience. Key strengths include comfortable open-ear wear, smart Apple ecosystem features and flexible wireless charging. The main limitation is that the open-ear design may not isolate noise or stay as secure as specialist in-ear workout earbuds.

Things to consider
Compared with sealed in-ear premium earbuds, the open-ear fit may deliver less passive isolation and a less locked-in feel during intense training.
Commuter suitability score
9/10 - Strong for daily travel thanks to Active Noise Cancellation, Adaptive Audio, compact wireless charging case and clear call performance.
Workout fit
Good for running, gym sessions and sweaty exercise, with IP57 protection, but the open-ear fit may feel less secure than sport-focused in-ear models.
Noise isolation effectiveness
7.5/10 - Active Noise Cancellation helps in everyday noisy settings, though the open-ear design is typically less isolating than sealed earbuds.
All-day comfort rating
9/10 - The open-ear design is well suited to long listening sessions and users who dislike deep in-ear tips.
Multi-device switching ease
9/10 - Best within the Apple ecosystem, where pairing and switching are typically smooth across compatible devices.
Key benefits
- Active Noise Cancellation: Helps reduce outside noise so music, podcasts and calls are easier to hear in busy environments.
- Adaptive Audio: Automatically blends noise control and awareness to better match changing surroundings.
- Conversation Awareness: Lowers playback when you start speaking, making quick chats more natural without removing the earbuds.
- Voice Isolation: Reduces background noise during calls to help your voice come through more clearly in loud places.
- Personalised Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking: Creates a more immersive, cinema-like soundstage for supported music, movies and games.
- Wireless Charging Case: Supports USB-C, Apple Watch chargers and Qi chargers for more convenient top-ups across different charging setups.
- IP57 dust, sweat and water resistance: Better suited to rain, sweaty workouts and everyday outdoor use than non-rated earbuds.
- Battery Life: Delivers up to 5 hours of listening with Active Noise Cancellation on, and up to 22 hours total with the case.
Q: Will these AirPods features work properly with an Android phone?
A: No. AirPods 5 can play audio over standard Bluetooth, but key features such as Conversation Awareness, Voice Isolation and Apple Intelligence functions require a compatible Apple device running the latest software.
Q: Do AirPods 5 wireless charging case work with Qi chargers?
A: Yes. The AirPods 5 Wireless Charging Case charges by USB-C, Apple Watch charger or standard Qi wireless charger. That gives you more charging options, but wireless charging is for the case, not for the earbuds on their own.
Q: How long do AirPods 5 last with noise cancelling on?
A: AirPods 5 deliver up to 5 hours of listening time when Active Noise Cancellation is on. With recharging from the case, total listening time is up to 22 hours, though battery life varies with settings, use and environment.
Q: Can you adjust volume directly on the AirPods stems?
A: Yes. AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case support volume swipe on the force sensor, so you can raise or lower volume from the stem. Other playback and call controls are also handled on-ear without reaching for your phone.
Q: Are AirPods 5 suitable for gym sessions and rain?
A: Yes. AirPods 5 are rated IP57 for dust, sweat and water resistance, which suits heavy workouts and use in rain. That rating is for non-water sports and exercise only, and resistance can reduce over time with wear.
Q: Do personalised spatial audio features work on non-Apple devices?
A: No. Personalised Spatial Audio needs compatible Apple hardware, content and software, plus an iPhone with TrueDepth camera to create your profile. The personalised profile is not available when these AirPods are used with other devices.
Q: Do these use silicone tips or an open-ear fit?
A: AirPods 5 use an open-ear design rather than silicone tips that seal the ear canal. That means the fit is different from in-ear buds, and noise control performance can be affected by fit and by debris or earwax build-up.
