Product Overview

The 60cm Ceramic Cooktop heats four zones on a glass ceramic surface for everyday cooking.

This Westinghouse cooktop fits kitchens seeking a straightforward electric solution with a black ceramic glass finish and stainless steel trim. The dual variable zone adapts to medium and large pans, making it suitable for family meals or varied cookware sizes. Knob controls with nine power levels allow for precise adjustments, whether simmering sauces or boiling water.

A residual heat indicator shows when the surface is still hot, helping to prevent accidental burns after cooking. The easy-to-clean ceramic surface simplifies maintenance, while the fixed stainless steel trim provides a durable edge. Installation must be completed by a licensed electrician for safety.

Model WHC642SC in black comes with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty.

    Looks and cooks great

The best features I like are: immediately when you turn on a plate it lights up in red so you know which plate is on at a glance, then when reaches a certain temperature the hot plate light goes off and the small area at the front shows which one is on

At a glance

This 60cm Westinghouse ceramic cooktop is a practical electric option for households wanting simple everyday cooking with four zones, a dual variable zone and easy knob controls. It suits standard family meals, regular saucepan use and kitchens after a clean black glass look. Its main limitation is that it offers fewer advanced features than premium induction or touch-control models.

Things to consider

Compared with premium induction or specialist cooktops, this model uses traditional ceramic electric heating, so it does not offer the faster response, cooler-surface performance or advanced smart features found on higher-end alternatives.

Family cooking suitability

Well suited to small to medium family cooking with four zones and a flexible dual zone for varied cookware.

Easy cleaning score

8/10 - smooth ceramic glass surface is easy to wipe clean, though the trim and control area still need regular attention.

Kitchen integration fit

9/10 - the 60cm format, black glass finish and stainless steel trim make it an easy fit for many modern kitchen layouts.

Safety rating

8/10 - residual heat indicators support safer everyday use, though it lacks some of the advanced safety features seen on higher-end models.

Key benefits

  • 4 Cooking Zones: Lets you cook multiple dishes at once for smoother meal preparation.
  • Dual Variable Zone: Adapts the cooking area to suit different pot and pan sizes more easily.
  • 9 Power Levels: Gives you finer heat adjustment for simmering, heating and boiling.
  • Residual Heat Indicator: Helps reduce accidental contact with zones that are still hot after cooking.
  • Easy Clean Ceramic Surface: The smooth glass surface is simpler to wipe down after everyday use.
  • Black Ceramic Glass Finish: Delivers a modern look that pairs well with many contemporary kitchens.
  • Stainless Steel Trim: Adds a durable edge finish that helps frame the cooktop neatly.
  • 2.2kW Powerful Zone: Provides stronger heat on one zone for quicker boiling and high-heat cooking tasks.

Q: Will this suit replacing an older 60cm electric cooktop?

A: Yes, in many kitchens. The Westinghouse WHC642SC measures 606 mm wide, 505 mm deep and 46 mm high, so it suits a common 60cm cooktop position, but the existing bench cut-out and electrical connection still need to match. Discuss with your electrician.

Q: Is this cooktop as responsive as induction for quick heat changes?

A: No. Westinghouse WHC642SC is a ceramic electric cooktop, so it usually heats and cools more gradually than induction when you change settings. It offers nine power levels for control, but it is not the fastest option for rapid response cooking.

Q: Does the Westinghouse WHC642SC use knobs or touch controls?

A: Westinghouse WHC642SC uses knob controls. That suits buyers who want a familiar manual control layout, and it avoids relying on touch inputs on the glass, but it does not offer the flatter control area found on full touch designs.

Q: Can the dual zone handle larger pots and frying pans?

A: Yes. The dual variable zone lets you match the cooking area more closely to medium or larger cookware, which helps with wide saucepans and larger frying pans. It is still one zone with adjustable size, not an extra burner.

Q: Does the surface stay hot after cooking finishes?

A: Yes. Westinghouse WHC642SC can stay hot after the zone is switched off because ceramic glass retains heat, and the residual heat indicator shows when a zone is still cooling. That helps with awareness, but the surface is not cool-to-touch straight away.

Q: Is the stainless steel trim removable for easier cleaning?

A: No. The stainless steel trim on this model is fixed rather than removable, so cleaning is done around the edge instead of lifting the trim off. The ceramic surface is flat and straightforward to wipe down, but food can still collect along the border.
