Sleek and Stylish yet Powerful and Portable
The device comes as good as you can expect it with the sleek design and stylish colour having good transfer rates with the Super speed USB. Very handy with the small size making it the perfect hard drive for its portability without occupying too much space but i bought as an external storage for my PS5. Got a really good deal with The Good Guys, will definitely recommend it.

Great way to store photos
Bought this as my old Portable hard drive was very full. Cant get over the size of them now, compared to what they used to be. Much smaller now for way more TB which is great. Bought this so I can store all my bird watching and other nature pics I take, in case they get accidently deleted off the sd card in my camera. A good way to back up pics ,instead of having them on the comp too.

Device corrupted 2 days after purchase
Lost all data within 2 days of use which include my wedding and son's birth photos and videos. They are no longer recoverable. Unbelievable low quality product, not functioning at all, like a scam. Contacted WD for support and they denied their product faulty and refused to offer third party data recovery covery nor sending over a new replacement.

Device corrupted 2 days after purchase
After uploading all my photos and videos of my wedding and my son's birth, the device corrupted abd cannot access anymore .Very upset and anxious that I have lost them all. After checking by a data recovery company, it said the device has only 52% health. I am contacting WD for a resolution. The good guys, please reach out if you could help on anything

Backup suitability
8/10 - well suited to routine personal backups, document archives, and media storage with useful 2TB capacity
Durability vs category average
Average - suitable for normal everyday portable use, but less shock-tolerant than many portable SSD options
Multi-device compatibility
8/10 - works with Windows 10 and above, supports USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, and can be reformatted for Mac
Ease of use score
9/10 - simple plug-in USB operation with no separate power adaptor required
Key benefits
- 2tb capacity: Gives you plenty of room for everyday backups, media collections, documents, and older laptop files in one portable drive.
- Compact portable design: Easy to slip into a bag or carry between home, office, and travel without taking up much space.
- Usb-powered operation: Runs directly from the USB port, so you do not need to carry a separate power adaptor.
- Superspeed usb connection: Supports transfer rates up to 5Gbps when used with USB 3.0 for quicker file moves than older USB 2.0 connections.
- Usb 3.0 and usb 2.0 compatibility: Works with newer and older USB ports, making it easier to use across a range of computers.
- Windows ready: Compatible with Windows 10 and above for straightforward setup on many current PCs and laptops.
- Mac reformat option: Can be reformatted for full use with Mac systems if you need flexible cross-platform storage.
- 2 year manufacturer's warranty: Adds extra peace of mind for everyday storage and backup use.
Q: Can I use this portable drive with a Mac?
A: Yes, but Mac users need to reformat the drive for full read and write access. It is set up for Windows 10 and above out of the box, so files should be backed up elsewhere before reformatting.
Q: How fast is file transfer on this hard drive?
A: With a USB 3.0 connection, the WD Elements SE supports transfer rates up to 5Gbps through its SuperSpeed USB-A cable. It also works on USB 2.0 ports, but transfers will be noticeably slower on the older connection.
Q: Is this better for backups or for working files daily?
A: This model suits everyday backups, photo libraries and general file storage more than constant heavy editing work. It is a portable HDD, so it is slower and less impact-resistant than a portable SSD for large, repeated transfers.
Q: Does the WD Elements SE need a power adaptor?
A: No. The WD Elements SE is powered through the USB port, so there is no separate power adaptor to carry. That makes it easier to use with a laptop on the go, provided the computer can supply standard USB power.
Q: Can 2TB store backups from more than one laptop?
A: Yes. A 2TB drive can suit multiple laptop backups, photo libraries and everyday files if the total data fits within that capacity. It is a practical choice for routine personal storage, not for users who need higher-speed scratch storage.
Q: Is the WD Elements SE rugged enough for frequent travel?
A: It is compact and light enough to carry regularly, but it does not have a specialist rugged design. As a portable HDD, it is more delicate than a portable SSD, so it is better suited to careful transport in a bag or sleeve.
