    great product, easy setup

i really like the product, simple to setup and works as it should. the only thing is that its bare strip, it doesn't have any silicon or plastic covering so just be aware of this, as i just assumed it would have it. for the price, yes i'd buy it again. also works with google home, very easy to setup.

Q: What is the difference between the Tapo L900-5 and Tapo L930-5 light strips?

A: The L900-5 is the simpler 5 metre Tapo strip for whole-strip colour changes, while the L930-5 adds zone control so different sections can show different colours at the same time. If that effect matters, the L930-5 is the better fit.

Q: Can the TP-LINK Tapo Smart Wi-Fi Light Strip be cut to fit a shorter space?

A: Yes, the L900-5 can be trimmed to better suit shorter shelves, desks or TV units. Cutting it short is useful for a neater fit, but once cut, the removed section cannot be used on its own as a separate smart light strip.

Q: Does the Tapo L900-5 need a separate hub to work?

A: No, this light strip connects directly by Wi-Fi and is designed to be set up through the Tapo app without a separate hub. That makes it easier for renters or first-time smart home buyers who want fewer extra devices on the shelf.

Q: Can the Tapo L900-5 show multiple colours at the same time along the strip?

A: No, the L900-5 changes colour across the whole 5 metre strip rather than displaying different colours in separate zones. If you want segmented effects for gaming rooms or feature lighting, a higher model such as the L930-5 suits that better.

Q: Will the Tapo L900-5 work on a 5GHz Wi-Fi network?

A: No, Tapo light strips in this range use 2.4GHz Wi-Fi for setup and control, not 5GHz only networks. If the router combines both bands, the 2.4GHz band usually needs to be enabled during setup so the strip can join correctly.

Q: Is 5 metres enough length for a desk, TV unit or bedroom accent lighting?

A: In many rooms, yes. A 5 metre strip is typically enough for one desk perimeter, a TV unit, a bedhead or a single shelf run, but it may be too short for full-room perimeter lighting, so measuring the path first helps avoid visible gaps.
