    Good quality router

Would expect more range from this router, but it is good enough. It has lots of great features and good enough for a small family to use, with lots of devices connected including security cameras, tablets, laptops, phone etc.

Awesome router, paired with fast nbn

The router was easy to setup and walks you through all the new features that come with WiFi 7. Had it setup in under 10 minutes, then had to wait an extra 4 min as it did a system update. All in all super convenient and super fast. Can definitely feel the difference coming from WiFi 6.

Things to consider

It is a strong premium home router, but buyers without Wi-Fi 7 devices or multi-gig internet may not benefit as much as they would from a cheaper Wi-Fi 6 or 6E model.

Large home coverage score

8.5/10 - six internal antennas and coverage-focused design make it well suited to medium and large multi-room homes.

Smart home device compatibility

Strong - suitable for homes with many connected smart devices, with tri-band capacity helping reduce congestion.

Gaming performance rating

8.5/10 - Wi-Fi 7, lower latency features, and multi-gig wired options make it a strong choice for online gaming.

Easy setup suitability

8/10 - a good fit for typical home users, with EasyMesh support making future network expansion more straightforward.

Key benefits

  • Tri-Band Wi-Fi 7: Supports busy households by spreading devices across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands for smoother everyday performance.
  • Combined Wireless Speed: Delivers up to 9214 Mbps total bandwidth for fast downloads, high-bitrate streaming, and responsive home networking.
  • 6 GHz Band: Provides up to 5760 Mbps on compatible devices, helping newer phones, laptops, and PCs access higher-speed wireless connections.
  • Six Internal Antennas: Helps maintain stronger signals across multiple rooms for more consistent coverage in larger homes.
  • EasyMesh Compatibility: Makes it easier to expand coverage later by adding compatible mesh devices instead of replacing the whole network.
  • Multi-Gig Wired Connectivity: Includes high-speed wired ports that suit gaming consoles, desktop PCs, and fast broadband connections.
  • USB 3.0 Port: Adds flexible connectivity for shared storage or supported networked USB devices.
  • Built-In Network Security: Includes SPI firewall, access control, and IP and MAC binding to help manage and protect your home network.

Q: Do I still need a modem with the Archer BE550?

A: Yes, in many homes. TP-LINK Archer BE550 is a router, so it needs an internet service handed off by a modem, NBN box or compatible gateway before it can share that connection across your wired and Wi-Fi devices.

Q: Will older Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 devices work properly?

A: Yes. TP-LINK Archer BE550 will still connect older Wi-Fi devices, but its newest Wi-Fi 7 features and the 6 GHz band deliver the biggest gains only on compatible hardware, so older gear will not reach the top advertised performance.

Q: Is the 6 GHz band available on all phones and laptops?

A: No. TP-LINK Archer BE550 includes a 6 GHz band with 5760 Mbps available when using compatible devices, but many older phones, tablets and laptops cannot use that band, so they will connect over 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz instead.

Q: How many fast wired devices can I connect directly?

A: TP-LINK Archer BE550 has five 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports. One port is for WAN internet input and four are LAN ports for wired devices such as PCs, consoles or network storage, so it suits homes with several high-speed wired connections.

Q: Can this router cover a split-level or larger home?

A: It is designed for medium to large homes, with six internal antennas and coverage features to help hold signal in multiple rooms. Layout still matters, so dense walls or multiple levels may need EasyMesh expansion for more even coverage.

Q: Can I add mesh units later without replacing the router?

A: Yes. TP-LINK Archer BE550 supports EasyMesh, so you can expand the network later with compatible mesh devices instead of starting again. That is useful if coverage is fine now but you expect dead spots after moving rooms or adding devices.

Q: What can the USB 3.0 port do on this router?

A: The USB 3.0 port can be used for supported storage sharing across your home network. It is useful for simple access to files from connected devices, but it is not a substitute for checking app and format support on every storage setup.
