Easy setup
Router took onlya few minutes to set up, and speed on nbn 500/50 plan is much faster than my old router. Would have been good to have some explanation in the setup sheet on what position the antennas should be set to.

Easy install and NBN READY
Im not tech savvy at all so just setting up is what I need to be easy and this was as simple as unplugging the old and replacing with the new . Very simple to install and has easy guide instructions 😀 Although this product when buying does not have an NBN READY sticker on it .. it actually is non ready.

At a glance
A fast dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router built for busy households that stream, game, and work across multiple rooms. It stands out for strong whole-home coverage, support for many connected devices, and useful Gigabit and USB 3.0 ports. It is a good mid-range choice for families, though it is not the most advanced option for users wanting tri-band or dedicated gaming features.

Things to consider
This router delivers strong dual-band performance, but users wanting maximum performance separation for many heavy devices may prefer a tri-band or specialist gaming router.
Large home coverage score
9/10 - Six external antennas and beamforming make it well suited to medium to large homes with multiple rooms or floors.
Smart home device compatibility
Strong for smart homes, with Wi-Fi 6 support and capacity for 100+ connected devices.
Gaming performance rating
8/10 - Fast AX5400 speeds and Gigabit ports suit online gaming well, but it lacks specialist gaming-focused traffic controls found on dedicated gaming routers.
Easy setup suitability
9/10 - App-based setup makes installation straightforward for most home users.
Key benefits
- AX5400 Wi-Fi: Up to 5400 Mbps combined wireless speed helps support fast streaming, downloading, and everyday online use across the home.
- Wi-Fi 6 Support: 802.11ax improves performance for newer devices and helps maintain smoother connections in busy households.
- Six External Antennas: Six antennas help extend signal reach across multiple rooms for more consistent whole-home coverage.
- Beamforming Technology: Directs signal toward connected devices to improve connection stability at longer distances.
- 4T4R and HE160 on 5 GHz: Supports up to 4804 Mbps on the 5 GHz band for faster high-bandwidth wireless connections with compatible devices.
- Gigabit Ethernet Ports: Four Gigabit LAN ports and one Gigabit WAN port provide fast, reliable wired links for consoles, PCs, and smart TVs.
- USB 3.0 Port: Lets you share files or media from a compatible USB storage device across your home network.
- MU-MIMO and OFDMA: Helps the router handle 100+ connected devices with less congestion in busy homes.
Q: Will this router work with an NBN service in Australia?
A: Yes. Archer AX73 can be used on Australian NBN services when there is a separate compatible modem or NBN connection device in front of it. It is a router, not a modem, so it does not replace every provider-supplied box on its own.
Q: Does Archer AX73 support mesh Wi-Fi for bigger homes?
A: Yes. Archer AX73 works with compatible TP-Link OneMesh products to extend coverage as a single Wi-Fi network. On its own it is still a standalone router, so very large homes or hard dead zones may need an extra mesh node or extender.
Q: Is this a good choice for double-storey or concrete-wall homes?
A: Yes, for many homes. Archer AX73 uses 6 external antennas and beamforming to spread coverage across multiple rooms or floors, but concrete walls and long layouts still reduce signal, so central placement or an added extender can matter.
Q: Can older phones and laptops still connect to this Wi-Fi 6 router?
A: Yes. Archer AX73 supports Wi-Fi 6 and older Wi-Fi standards on both 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz, so existing phones, tablets and laptops can still connect. Older devices will use their own standard, so they will not gain full Wi-Fi 6 speed benefits.
Q: Is the AX5400 speed available on a single device?
A: No. AX5400 is the combined dual-band class, not a single-device speed. Archer AX73 lists 4804 Mbps on 5 GHz with 802.11ax HE160 and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, and real throughput also depends on your client device.
Q: What can you do with the USB 3.0 port?
A: The USB 3.0 port is for sharing files or media from a compatible USB storage device across your home network. It suits network access to stored content or simple private cloud use, but it is not described as a general-purpose charging or device-control port.
Q: How many wired devices can connect directly to this router?
A: Archer AX73 has 4 Gigabit LAN ports for wired devices such as a desktop, console or smart TV, plus a separate Gigabit WAN port for the internet link. If 4 wired connections are not enough, a network switch can expand them.
